horrible drive home!
I was driving home from the gym up my road which is a 60km zone. A dog darted onto the road right into a SPEEDING ford truck in the opposite lane to me, where the dog proceeded to be tossed around as it got ran over by this truck. I was just so shocked that this happened right in front of my eyes, i slammed on the brakes (stalling my car) and slammed the horn down cuz it didn't look like the truck was going to stop. i pulled over and got out of my car as the guy in the truck pulled over and got out too. the first thing he said was that it was either me or the dog. harsh!! but then i'm glad it wasn't me.
the owners of the dog weren't home, so the truck guy pulled the dog off the road and left. the dog was still breathing his last breaths but wasn't moving and neither were his eyes. there was nothing we could do. i know there are way worse things in life, but i'm a huge animal lover and to see that happen right in front of my face made me really upset and shaky and i can't get that image out of my head. |

i'm really sorry to hear about that
i hope everything gets better i'm such an animal lover to...but i've never seen an incident like that...and i'm glad i never have, and i hope i never will. there's nothing you could do at all, so don't dwell on that...cause that's usually the first thing that will come to one's mind is that what could they have done..but it only makes it worse to focus on that hope everything get's better i'm really sorry to hear about that |

Something sort of like that happened to my sister.
She was at her bf's and he had a dog. Well they were outside and the dog darted out onto the road (wasn't a hugely busy one either) and this guy was speeding down the road. He hit the dog (i think it was like a rotweiler or something) and he stopped, fingered them and speed off. He didn't even stop!! So mean.. Sorry to hear that happened, I would freak if I ever hit an animal.. So sad.. |

Its sad when you hit anything/one...on some level it may even seem worse if its an animal than a person, because animals seems so helpless and defenseless, they don't understand the 'rule of the road', etc., although obviously their instincts take them a long way.
That all said, one of the first things I learned in driver's ed was that, as harsh as it sounds, if you have to choose between hitting an animal and hitting a person, choose to hit the animal; if you have to choose between hitting an animal and hitting a solid object that put yourself at risk of injury, to hit the animal. Horrific as it sounds, you really do have to make that kind of n impassioned decision when you're driving and in that type of a situation. Its terrible that you had to be involved in it at all though, I know I'd be saddened for days cuz it would make me think of my kitty-kat and how sad I would be if I lost her, and how sad this pet's owners must be. Hopefully you're never exposed to this type of situation again. |

on the flipside, i once knew this dog who was stupid as a rock, but had a rawhide horseshoe or something.
he was run over 4 times! each time without a scratch. the 3rd time it was by a fucking camaro too, which only has a few inches of clearance. some how bob (rhymes with knob) managed to survive. he died of natural causes 2 years later. as for your situation... that's rough. i've had quite a few pets go on me, and each were members of the family. luckily i've never had to see them go, muchless see something as dramatic as that. did you alert the spca? ie, was it tagged/tatooed? any little bit helps for closure for the family who lost him. |

i know it'll be my dog's turn any time. My mom is planning a trip to hawaii this summer and about an hour ago she says to me "I hope nothing happens to the dog while we're gone. but if so, i want to get her cremated so we can throw her ashes in the park that she loves". i almost started crying. |

my parents just got home and i asked them if they had seen the dog on the side of the road and they hadn't, so i suppose the owner or spca had come.
i cried when i told my parents! :090: i didn't think i would get so upset over a dog i didn't know, but i guess thats what happens when you are an animal lover! |

i'm glad ur ok..that must have been such a traumatic experience..
if that driver guy had told me that it was either him hitting me or the dog..i would've said that he should've hit me..i remember arguing with my driving instructor over hitting cars or trees or animals.."don't hit the tree..hit the animal"..wut a jerk~ if anything happened to my dogs..i dunno...i think my dogs will live forever..(will be in denial for as long as they live).. |
