In the Corner
There's a beautiful butterfly, and she's got torn wings.
Voices tell her she's worthless and other bad things. Things and sounds she tries to freeze; She'll get really hungry, and refuse to feed. She compares herself to unrealistic images, in all the magazines. She smells of teen. But is far from it, for she is of twenty-one years, and down her face streams the tears. The butterfly tries to run and hide, but to none she feels she can abide. she tries to get in to her old skin But it will not fit and her wings get clipped. We try to help the daughter, but the disease has seemed to have caught her. The docter's tell her she must be bold, for she is getting old, and if she is lucky this sickness shall fold. And here I lay awake With my beautiful butterfly anorexic sister In the corner. |
