$20 bux for a tip tooo much?
Just wondering....b/c well...I just had a groomer here to shave my cat..b/c she had matts..really bad ones..and the lady said ussualy that bad she would have sent me to the vet to be charged $100 and up, but b/c bailey was being good..she did it..and that she should be charging more..but bailey was being good..so she didn't...so I gave her $20 dollar tip on top of the price for it & the lady was super super nice and did a really good job and didn't cut my cat at all.
I dunno I thought I was being nice...my mom thinks otherwise and now I feel dumb. O well :| *you should see my cat now...HAHA she looks like a lion/squirrel* |

On average for that type of service yeah, it might be a little much, but I think that this may be one of those 'every rule has its exception' kinda things. Bottom line is that if you were comfortable with what you gave and happy with the service received before you granted the tip, the who cares - so what if your mom isn't happy, it doesn't sound like she paid for it, even if she did it sounds like overall she got a deal.

i think the lady was conning you into giving her a phat tip....especially if she kept saying that she should have sent yer cat to a vet.
tips should be around 15 percent or so for something like that. i mean if its a housecall...i probably woulda given 20 bucks to... maybe. im broke right now so i might be the wrong person to ask hahaha |

there's no rule as to how much you should tip someone.
sure, people say 10% or 15% but when it comes down to it, you're giving them EXTRA money on top of what their service is actually worth because you think they did a good job. If you wanted to give her 20 bucks because your cat looks all pretty now, then good on ya, and im sure the lady was really thankful! She'll probably be happy to help you out in the future. |

^^^As proof of this, one new years eve (many moons in the past) I went to a danceclub that had $20 cover which included open bar (woo-hoo!). I gave the bartender a $20 tip right off the bat, and explained that I didn't wanna be hassled with tipping every time I came up for a drink, and that if I waited 'til the end of the night I would certainly be so drunk that I would forget. All I asked is that she continue feeding my double rye and cokes when I came up. I swear, the lineup could be three deep and I would be served before anyone else - best $20 I ever spent!

two things.
1) there seems to be some confusion in this thread. a 15% tip is a base tip. that's like.. minimum. 2) if someone gives you a good deal, and does an excellent job, giving then a $20 tip shows that you appreciate it. i think it was a super classy thing to do, and that person will be very inclined to help you out in the future. |
