War officially broken out
Apparently war has now broken out in Baghdad. I was watching CNN and the US has launched cruise missiles from ships in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea to a possible location housing Saddam Hussein.
There were some bombers involved in this mission as well. From what I hear on the news the chance of this being a success is very very slim. A CNN correspondent is reporting hearing anti-aircraft guns being shot off from locations in Baghdad as well, most likely aimed at taking out the above mentioned bombers. This is a sad day. I can only imagine what kind of hell is going to break loose now. Bush is reporting support from over 35 nations in his attack, however, France, Russia, and Germany are saying that the attack on Iraq was illegal. They are basing their reasoning on the fact that there was no proof that Iraq posed a direct threat to the USA. So does anyone know if the protests are taking place at the US Embassy then? Would they have started already? I'm wondering if people are starting to gather there now. |

^Muslim leaders in Asia condemned the U.S. attack on Iraq on Thursday and said Americans would never live in peace again.
I got that quote off of the CNN website.... obviously there is going to be retaliation. We should definitely be afraid..... hell if a nuclear bomb is even dropped on Seattle we'd feel the effects here. Chernobyl???? This is a scary time.... wish I had a bomb shelter.... |

The meetings are supposed to happen the day the war breaks out.. 12:30 at the american consolate building, and then at 5 at the Art gallery. Considering its past both those time I'm guessing this will be happening tommorow.
I really want to go but it just might make me even more upset. |

you know what quit frankly im gertting sick and fuckin tired of all this doomsday blah blah stupid zshit about war and terrorist attacts.
you wanna know an almost universal truth? war happens, people die, terrorist attacts happen and theres little a normal person like you or me can do about it. these types of crisises have occured through out human history, terrorists could've blown up seattle with a nuclear bomb 2 years ago, just because theres a war now dosn't mean its gonna happen. life is fucked up and shitty, just deal with it. |

^This is me popping your bubble. *poke*
Wake up Sean.... you're right that shit happens but if you're ignorant enough to think that it'll have zero effect on you then I feel sorry for you. You're right, chances are you won't die over it but the effects of a war of this kind of magnitude will be felt through out the world. |

^Hows Bush going to regret it? When Iraq wins the war? When Korea nukes the US? When every country opposing the war attacks the US starting World War 3? Please. Iraq doesnt have a prayer. Dont get me wrong tho, I hate Bush as much as anyone, but hes not gonna get what SHOULD be coming to him. All we can hope for is him losing the next election.
As for the war: oh well. I agree that Sadaams gotta go, yet the way the US went about it was just plain wrong. It sets a bad precedent for other countries since the US attacked uprovoked, without any concrete evidence and against UN wishes with intense international opposition. This is seriously going to create distrust against the US in the global community from now on and you can say goodbye to diplomatic progress between the US/allies and the Arab nations... Yet I still believe the war would've happend anyways and in the long run it's way better for Iraq. All I can hope for is that the war will be over soon (which Im 90% sure it will, Arab troops arent known to 'fight till the end' like say the Vietnamese), the difficulty of urban warfares been overplayed, its nothing like the jungles of Vietnam. I can see this war being over very soon. |

It's amazing how far Bush is taking this too..... on Friday night's bombing mission (Friday morning here) he had the US army drop 3 times the amount of bombs that were dropped during the ENTIRE Gulf War.
WTF!?!?! Over 1500 bombs were dropped with innocent casualties estimated at a minimum of 100 people. Apparently there have only been 2 American casualties. They were K.I.A. while facing off with Iraqi soldiers in Southern Iraq I believe. Protests against the war have been rampant world wide as well. 30 000 people protested in Yemen and a few deaths came out of that protest. 10 000 in Cairo protested as well resulting in water cannons and tear gas being launched on the crowd. There are Canada wide protests today as well although I doubt we'll reach those kinds of numbers.... I just pray that no one does anything dumb and everyone protesting stays safe. |
