Anyone here into car audio??
I was reading the A&B Sound sale thread Reezo started and this topic popped into my mind.
I love music and can't crank it loud at home so I take it to the car. I'm just curious to know how crazy some of you are when it comes to autosound. My system is comprised of: Alpine 7909L CD Tuner 2 - Audio Control EQT 30 band EQ's McIntosh M431m 4 x 100W amp Phoenix Gold 1 farad capcitor DynAudio System 340 for front end in custom pods 2 - Image Dynamics IDQ 10's in a sealed box Interconnects are Straight Wire Rhapsody II Speaker wire is Straight Wire Rhapsody II It makes enough noise to keep me happy. :c-tard: |

i have a much more basic system...and i can't remember the series numbers but this is what i got... a 50wX4 kenwood deck w/ equalizer and sub control..the equalizer is fuckin awesome i don't know how i lived without it...i have it set so that my door speakers will play the mids and highs but don't play bass deeper then 80hrz....the mids and highs are routed through 2 pairs of pioneer 5 1/4" speakers mounted in the doors..the problem with my car is that i couldn't mount most door speakers because of the way the window track is mounted i have to have speakers with a slim profile which means a smaller magnet, which is alright since most of the bass comes from the sub, but someitmes i get distorsion at higher volume levels(like when my stereo is on max) as a result of the low power handling of the speakers i don't run a amp for the door speakers. i have a 600watt 2 channel kenwood amp with a 10" Xtant subwoofer. i don't knwo the model names for either but i know the xtant sub is brand new and has a metal woofer cone. |

The DynAudio System 340 is a 3-way component set comrpised of an 7" woofer, 3" midrange and 1" tweeter. The woofer is in the door, the midrange and tweeter are in fibreglass kickpanel pods the equalize the left-right distances from the speaker to my ears.
The 2 10" IDQ 10's are in a tuned, sealed box firing towards my rear window which allows the bass wave to reflect back and I get more bass respose this way. It is not bolted down to the floor but pressure fit so I can remove it anytime I want if I need cargo space. The subs are run in a stereo configuration but I am sending a mono bass signal to the subs. There is no such thing as stereo sub bass as it is an omnidirectional signal. To get around door mounting issues you can make plates for the speakers to sit in and then bolt these to the door. What this allows you to do is 1) strengthen the mounting frame to reduce vibrations and therefore distortion and 2) provides more mounting depth so you can use a speaker with a larger magnet 3) allows you to angle the speaker to allow for better imaging than the standard crossfire pattern you get when you use starndard speaker locations. The distortion you are hearing is more likely from the deck than the speakers or maybe a combination of both. Deck power normally gets pretty distorted at anything past 70% volume. |

2 Alpine Type-S 10s in Tri-tuned box tuned to resonance frequency of my car
550w Rockford Amp Alpine CD Changer and Headunit (soon to be replaced by a really pimpin pioneer deck) JBL 4x6s in front, and clarion 4x6s in rear. Alpine rep brought decible-meter to my buddies work, and we metered some cars. Mic was calibrated just a few hours before. We metered a car with 4x15in alpine type-r's running some ungodly amount of power in a hatchback tsi talon, scored 157db, and mine hit 152@60something hertz using a bass cd (with brad influence sitting on my sunroof) and change right after :) And then to make sure his car didn't just fuck the mic, we metered his again, and again it came to 157. My box has 6 port holes. 2 Chambers per sub, 1 porthole per chamber, and 1 connecting the two. Supposidely very hard to build properly, but it's supposed to make very good sound. It's all because of the box |

I wish i could afford some better shit like above, although I do have a couple JL W4 12's in the back - sickest sounding subs i've heard if you ask me (the range is spectacular for 12's), i just need better power for em. |

- Panasonic Deck(its nothing snazzy)
- Front 5 1/4 door speakers (stock i think) - Pioneer 3 way 6x9's running off a sony 30 watt/2 channel amp - 2 12" jensen subs running off a 600w alpine v12 amp in a custom built carpeted box Not too crazy but it certainly thumps my little gti hatchback pretty nicely. B//F |
