Trebas Institute?
Hi, anyone know anything about the Trebas Institute's across Canada? I've heard some great stuff, but i also heard from a friend that Trebas could not hook him up with a job as promised and asked him to find employment himself.
anyone know anything about the Music Produiction program / Sound Engineering program @ Trebas? and also how much does it cost? (ive talked to Trebas but they wouldnt disclose the costs on the phone) thanks :) |

it's like $11000 or 12000 for a couple semesters I believe.
Have you looked into the audio engineering programs at CDIS yet? if your wanting to go to a school at that level, CDIS may be a better choice. I've also heard alot of sketchy things going on with the administration at trebas lately too, like instructors not getting paid by the owners and such... |

ok i was a student at trebas....
if your friend couldnt be hooked up with a job...might have been partly his fault..although i can also blame the school a bit the school does NOT promise employment after graduation...by law no school can. i was at trebas for a month in the music business administration program and had to withdraw. the equipment there is absolute crap...and the students and faculty were promised renovations and new equipment that never showed. so we all signed a petition and ppsec (some public and private school people) came in and did an audit and it was determined that trebas did in fact need all this equipment and gave the owner of the school 30 days to either shut down the vancouver campus or put in new stuff 30 days arent up...and as far as i've heard...there's no new equipment. they may still get it...if they do im going back. but unless the toronto or montreal campuses have new equipment...or the vancouver one gets it...i dont recommend going.. not for your course anyways. go to cdis, columbia... theres also a brand new school (which means brand spankin new up to date eqiupment) with an absoultey GORGEOUS studio called Pavi : http://www.pacificav.com/ umm anything else you need to know just ask oh and costs...for one year typically 11 grand www.trebas.com good luck. |

rock on PAVI:
"Noted for it's bright and spacious sound, studio "A" hosts a Yamaha C-3 grand piano, Hammond B3 organ with Leslie rotating speaker cabinet, Ayotte custom drum set and three isolations booths." they get points for having a Hammon/Leslie setup, but they don't have a computer music program. if you go over their equipment list they're fully setup as a traditional recording studio... BORING. dat machines can kiss my sparkling white ass. when i eventually getting around to taking a music program it'll probably be the electronic music program at CDIS (or their CATO branch that just opened here in kelowna). |

keep in mind...CDIS may have a better assortment of equiptment and toys to learn with but...the calibre of teachers is clearly lacking. you should check out the credentials of the trebas staff and compare them to those at CDIS.
some of the teachers I had at trebas were nothing short of genius, and working with and around that crap ass gear can actually benefit you sometimes best advice: spend 10 grand on your own setup and bribe one of the teachers to help you on thier free time... :kam: oh ya, a trebas diploma means nothing!!(theyre no longer an acredited school) |
