Multiculturalism Rocks
yes i love our fair multi-cultural land
wide selection in colors of boys, languages, religions and a fantastic selection of clothes Great , great food to choose from , from Greek and Jamacian to Chinese Russian to 'American' and west Coast cuisine also i think about pure white, small town USA and think to myself, thank heavens I'm here :) nothing against them, just glad I have variety and more variety (inspired by the I love East Indians thread) I love Canada (and the Canucks, no matter what!) Multiculturalism does rock. I couldn't imagine how it would be without the ethnic diversity we have here on the West Coast.
I had to fly into Grand Rapids, Michigan once for a company I worked for and to say they are culturally deprived is an understatement. I asked the taxi driver if they had a Japanese restaurant and he says "I don't know if there is a Japanese person here other than you." Riiiiight. I'm not Japanese . So I am starving and tell him to pull into the Taco Bell. He asks me "Do you feel safe walking in there by yourself?" and I'm thinking like WTF does that mean? So I walk inside and it is like a scene out of a movie. Time stands still, there is no noise, you can hear the AC fan whirring, people just stop and stare and the kid behind the counter looked like a deer caught in headlights. It was weird. Maybe they haven't seen a asian with black sunglasses, black leather jacket, black shirt, black slacks and black boots on before. :c-tard: |

I have to agree that I enjoy the multiculturalism that our country has, especially our own fair city. Could you even picture a Vancouver without it? I think thats what makes our city so unique is that so many diffrent cultures have almost almagamated to the point where they regularly participate or enjoy activities, foods, etc... from cultures other than their own. |

after living in Vancity and another multicultural mecca, Cape town South Africa, I have found it all boils down to one thing. And if you are lucky enough to life in and around it like us vancouverites are.. we should all be so very thankfull for it.
anyways.. it's all about: The Shine happy people laughing! Rainbow nation whut, whut! |

As much as I like multicultralism, because I do like some aspects such as the food, pleasure, language, celbration, pride. etc.
I like the idea of celebrating and living my own culture more, which is a bit more singular-culture. To take pride in all of the above stated. As well as much much more! I don't like the idea of the melting pot-effect, like your culture is my culture, lets amalgomate and be multi-cultural. I think it's much more important to celebrate your own culture and heritage, and not 'Canadianism', stick to your roots. Those will be tons more helpful in life than propriating another culture. stina. |

multi-culturalism does rock. especailly when you're a walking example like me. (I'm half chinese and half caucasian. so typical of Van.) there is more and more of us halfers around. This makes the melting pot effect genetic. so you people better get used to it.
