The whole thing really pisses me off.
I agree, something should be done to reduce accidents and deaths, but this is just going the wrong way about it. I mean, how is having your N for two years supposed to reduce speeding? People will speed no matter what. They should be out there more CATCHING those who do it, with harder punishments for it, if they really want to stop it. But of course, that costs money, money they don't want to spend. So in turn, they put all the blame on teenagers, and bring this up so it looks like they're doing something. What about the adults?? I've seen a helluva lot of adults drivers who are WORSE than teens. Geez, some of them got their license in the 60/70's, and haven't taken a test SINCE then. I've seen many HORRIBLE drivers, who aren't teenagers.. so why put everything on us? Changes would be fine.. but I think they should be different. I don't mind the passenger limit so much, but I don't like raising the legal driver's age from 19 to 25 for people with their L. From what I observe, that just makes it HARDER for people to get more practice with their L, since it limits who you can drive with ALOT. Maybe make it 21 instead. I just don't like 25. I see what they are trying to do, but this just seems like the cheap way out. Other ways would be more effective, but they would cost money, so those are out of the question. |

^^ most likely you would have the changes imposed on you as well, passenger-wise. they might not keep change your first possible test date, but the passenger rule would probably apply to ANYONE with a N, whether you got it today, or two years ago...

I think it's a good idea.
And it will reduce speeding by young drivers...definitely. All you need is 2 speeding tickets in 1 year and you should technically get your license suspended for a period. These new regulations will probably reduce accidents. How many times have you seen a big N in someone's window on a saturday night, the car stuffed with rowdy kids, speeding along the highway, screaming out the window? I guess it sucks for new drivers, but it's a good choice on the government's part. |

It's been proven that when there are more people in the car that drivers become more erradict. They tend to show off and turn the music up.
You know what, if this causes less injury to drivers and less deaths then I'm all for it. Maybe this will lower car insurance because of less law-suits. |

What bothers me is the lengthening of the time you have your L and N for. And the legal driver age being upped to 25. I really don't see how lengthening the time inbetween tests is going to make people better drivers? |

i hate it when my car is full....parallel parking with 4 other people in the car = freaky
i don't agree with the 6 month -> 1 year or the 1.5 year -> 2 years thing though what does an extra 6 months really do right? annnnnnd this will not stop speeding. if people are going to be stupid with the old rules, then they are going to be stupid with the new rules as well but yeah do these new rules apply for drivers who already have their L or N?? |

andrew - most likely.. but that's if they even go through. i can't see them not making everyone follow the rules though? that wouldn't make sense.
konrad - the 25 thing is when you have your L, you have to have a fully licensed driver in the car with you. before they had to be over 19, but they want to change that to 25. Yes, it's partially so kids can't learn to drive with their friends (but if they learn to drive so bad, they probably won't pass their road test anyways..), but it also screws over all the people who want to get practice, with say an older sibling. and that's how alot of people i know got most of their practice, with an older sibling/cousin. they didn't learn through them, but they got time to practice since it's not always possible to get alot of practice time in with your parents! |

I'm not saying that all new drivers are bad ones--many are great, and better than many adults. But this is just a measure to help cut down on the ones that act foolish, and cause accidents, and deaths. |

I am kind of miffed about this considering I JUST got my N.. Well, more specificly I'm mad because someone like me (who is not an inconsiderate fuckwad that is going to pack a bunch of people in their car, get carried away and possibly hurt/kill someone), and other drivers who actually obey the laws of driving shouldn't have to suffer because of all the other accidents.
I honestly think that as part of receiving your lisence in the first play, instead of just testing driving skills there should be a background check. A simple conversation and few questions asked to a character refference could quite possibly help eliminate people who are not mature enough to drive yet from getting behind the wheel untill they are ready (if ever). It could also eliminate the need for restrictions like a passenger limit that effect EVERYONE including good drivers. |

man i hate these stupid fuckin laws!!
as of this date i have taken my road test 4 times and everytime i failed was because i was so fucking nervous. every person that drives with me says i'm a great driver. the thing is i know how hard these tests are, so i try to remember everything and end up forgetting something else. stupid fuckin people that drink and drive with a group of friends and decideds to speed then ends up getting in a car crash that kills their friends. people like that are making it harder for people liek me to get my liscences. sorry i'm so bitter but i'm just pissed at these ignoramases. fucks |

i kind of see where this law is coming from..
im a new N driver and even right now i try not to drive with a full car AND music playing.. too much distractions for me all at once. lack of experience + being horrible at directions + distraction = no funfun. but being stuck with the L for a YEAR and N for two years...ouch. time is pushin |

I don't see how the changes can effect the drivers that already have the 'N'. They shouldn't be able to change it now, just like the rules didn't change for everyone when they first implemented the graduated licensing program. I shouldn't say I can't see them do this, because it is the government. BUT for someone who has had their 'N' for at least 3 years now, I don't see how they would be able to change the rules all of a sudden. They better not. But then again, I'd just have to fork out the money to take the stupid money grabbing final test. And what's going to happen if new drivers need to carpool to get to school/work?! There are a lot of full time working aged people and even college/uni kids who need to carpool to get to work/school.
oh well. We'll see what the government (and Rich Coleman, who just happens to live in my town) comes up with this time. geez. |
