It makes me really uncomfortable to stare at the night sky sometimes.
When it's clear out and you can see hundreds or thousands of points of light, each one representing some huge object burning light-years away, it makes you aware of how minimal human dimensions really are. Not just in measurements of size, but of longevity. You could have lived and died thousands of times in the time it takes for the nearest star's light to reach you, your presence only able to observe the most miniscule fraction of an astronomical lifespan. Think about it long enough, and you might realize how insignificant you actually are. |
