schizophrenics...the spice of life
So a story to make you laugh...it is a little long but read it is funny.
So this lady comes up to the till where I work and orders some food. She then demands a reciept. The girl at the till says: You haven't paid yet. The lady mutters something to herself then pays. She then puts the reciept into her bag. She comes back 30 seconds later demanding a reciept. The girl at the till informs her that she put it in her bag...The lady then asks the girl at the till her name. The girl says "Jocelyn". The lady then asks: "Are you a Canadian citizen?!" Jocelyn (who happens to be Korean) says yes. The lady walks off and mutters something. Jocelyn comes to the back to help make food. All of a sudden the lady is yelling over the counter at the people cooking: "JOCELYN! JOCELYN! DON'T THINK I DIDN'T HEAR WHAT YOU JUST CALLED ME!!!!" The lady then storms back to her table. The girl is totally surprised and the supervisor (who happens to be my brother) asks Jocelyn if she said anything. Jocelyn (who is a little upset) says no. My bro then goes over to the lady's table and says: "Hi, my name is Mike and I'm the supervisor here. If there is a complaint about one of the employees or service could you please talk to me instead of the employees." The lady says: "MIKE! WHO DO YOU WORK FOR!" Mike says: "The AMS and the Pit." The lady says: "ARE YOU A CANADIAN CITIZEN!!!" Mike (who looks white) says: "Uh...yes." The lady then proceeds to open up a book that has names scribbled in it and writes "Mike: Canadian citizen." in it. She then looks at my brother in a suspicious way and says: "DID YOU TELL JOCELYN TO CALL ME A BITCH WITH YOUR MIND?!" It is at that point that Mike fully realized he was dealing with a crazy person. Too funny! :284: |

^ I wonder if she was a customer at the bank i used to work at...we had lots of fun times with a client who had a bank account for her cat, and her cat had significantly more money then she did - sometimes she'd have to borrow money from fluffy...is was sad, and funny
But seriously, were they using their minds to communicate bad messages about the lady?? I bet they were.... |

/\ Don't get me wrong, I am not making fun of her I just thought it was a funny situation. I have personally had dealings with this lady and she has always seemed somewhat normal and good humored which would imply that she is on some form of medication. She apparently forgot it that day. It would be like me walking around without my contacts. Sad as I would be squinting and bumping into things but in the same token, it would have some amusement value.
You took my post entirely the wrong way my dear... |

poor lady...... :(
sorry to digress, but did you know that "schizophrenic" is a politically incorrect term? a more politically correct term would be "person with schizophrenia" because you're putting the person before the mental disorder and not the mental disorder before the person... I just found that fact interesting. anyways.. carry on... :284: --Joanne :P |

ok...i didn't mean that you were "sad" in the sense that you're pathetic...i meant that it's actually sad in the sense that if i saw that and then saw someone laughing...i'd be sad/upset...
i can see the humor. i'm not perfect or inhuman... [and i'm not taking your post the wrong way, just a different way] i just don't understand why someone would decide to post a story involving someone that obviously has a mental disability [or whichever politically correct term you see fit] and then to have people respond saying that it makes them laugh. would you laugh if you actually saw this happening? |

was it an older white woman with silver hair, and that was about 5'4" cuz i was chillin with some friends in the sub over a year ago and we had an encounter with this crazy old white woman who acted pretty much the same way..she was telling us how the chinese doctors in canada were trying to take over the country by inserting small pox into people through a spinal tap. and she told us how her father was friends with chiang kai shek and that taiwanese people were gonna take over the world and there trying to screw everyone over. which was funny because all the people i was chilling with asian, but they were sheep and didn't do anything..finally i got pissed off and told her to shut the fuck up and leave, and she did. |

If some one reacts with laughter it doesn't necessarily mean that they are an inhuman being that lacks compassion, i think that in reacting to an awkward situation not everyone intially takes into consideration whether or not the person has a mental disorder.. |

Situations like that normally cause peole to stare in disbelief and for those directly involved, it's usually later that they have a laugh.
people laugh at the misfortune of other, they profit off the misfortunes of others - as Yoko said this is not a perfect world, and we are not perfect people - No where did I see mention of treating the woman with nay disrespect or laughing at her during the time was complaining -- If you saw this on Jackass and Mr. Knoxville was doing it - you'd laugh - We can't take everything too seriously, and yes, her situation is sad. But it sounds to me like she was treated like any other client with a concern - and treated with respect |

Thanks Jingles. As a matter of fact she was treated with respect and when she comes in at any other time I always treat her like any other customer. It was just that one time that the situation was so unexpected and bizarre that I couldn't help but find it amusing. I have seen my best friend fall out of his wheelchair when he is drunk and everyone that doesn't know the guy thinks it is a serious situation. Whereas his friends know that he falls out of his chair all the time...(Usually cause he is trying to do some crazy stuff in it) And we all have a good laugh at it (Including him). There is no disrespect and if we thought that the laughing or chuckling would cause any emotional damage to him we would not do it. He does the same to us when we do off the wall things too. The disorder/disability is not funny but sometimes situations that arise from it can be. It is not making fun of the person it is being able to laugh at a strange situation. see?
And Sean, if she has long silver hair and wears big glasses I think we may be talking about the same person. Last edited by Prissypants; Jun 13, 03 at 01:17 PM. |

i thought it was funny. i also find death, abortion, and general human misery amusing, including my own. i laugh at car accidents and terrorist attacks, and I can't help but go kind of nuts when I cut up dead animals sometimes. if I couldn't laugh at that kind of stuff I'd probably kill myself.
