Honestly Dug isn't that "big" of a DJ but he does get props as one of the better DJ's on the entire west coast (and there's a LOT of them). I've seen him spin 10-15 times or so (basically every time he's played Vancouver) and with the odd exception he's rocked it like few others can. Give me Czech, Matt the Alien, Jungle Souldier and Dig Dug and that's a fuckin party!

i wasnt impressed with his set at oh funky. i really just didnt get into it. i didnt like the tracks he played.
that said, he is still one of my favorite djs and he can rock a party like no one else when hes on!! did you see him and sir kutz at twisted? honestly just insane. and his mixing when hes really into it is unbeileivable. and again, hes a super nie guy. hes dealt with me ranting and raving at him many a times and been a totally cool guy. |

well i think that if a performer are into what they are doing then the audience enjoys the show more....so what if he diddnt wreck any mixes or any shit like that, I still think he sucked this time around because of his attitude.
now your all gonna tell me talked to him or caught him smile on numerous occasions or shit like that, but i dont care, i have had more fun at other parties he played at when he looked like he was digging what he was doin.sorry for the pun |

He's a wicked guy, after his closing set at USC (his second set that nite) he came up to me, my bro, and some other dood and startin chattin for a bit. Bottom line he's a wicked guy and he rox ne place he spins at... Did u see the way he was mixin at O Funky(even though it was alot or mostly florida breaks ) I think he was even better than Perfect Combination to tell u the truth... He fuckin ripped it up when he opened for Baby Anne and Icey in seattle and that was wicked...

I missed his set w/ Sir Kutz..so angry... But ya, Dig-Dug is pretty phat. His selection of breaks that are heavy in bass mix well with his speed garage. Sometimes he'll even put in the odd 2-step track and that'll get the crowd going.
His set at Usc 7 was awsome, too bad most ppl in Seattle had gone home. Wow, 4am is really early, of course starting a party at 8 is really early. Heh. Doug, if your ready this. The girls dancing on stage while you were spinning at Usc 7 were hilarious. Harsh groupies! If you want there pictures pm me. Go and check out Dig This and you'll never put this mix down. If it doesnt get your feet moving, nothing will. |

I've also seen him a couple times and he was so fucked (adreneline?) (coke?) he was shaking all over the place but still played an insane set.
Really crowd intereaction is a plus but his skills/tracks make up for it. I watched dieselboy play two hours at liquafied summer before last and the only intereaction he gave us was a fist in the air for about 10 seconds the whole set and that did it for me. Fuck when czech spins all the intereaction from him I need is him to pull out andthat ciggarette smoke it for some reason then I know im watching the right guy. WTF is with that ciggarette anyways? |

mojo & Oliver...
Thanks for taking the time to express your likes and dislikes for my set at "Oh Funky". All I can say is that I've been performing live in front of dancers since early 96, and I know that I am continually learning and growing as an artist in this industry. I really do appreciate that you two voiced your constructive criticism in a way that is specific and will actually help me in this growing process. Sometimes I find myself concentrating so much on the precision of my technical mixes and tricks, that I lose part of my interaction with the crowd. This is something I am conscious of, and knowing is half the battle, right?! And for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure - dealing with sound level negotiations from another country's police officers in the middle of your set, tends to throw you off a bit. It's unfortunate that nervousness, extreme concentration, or being mentally distracted gets so easily mistaken for a "big ego" as a DJ. Matty7.0... Just for the record, I've never snorted anything up my nose. Ask anyone who knows me. Not trying to knock on anyone's personal choices, it just wouldn't be good for my addictive personality. Everyone else who posted on this thread... Thanks for the support. I absolutely love performing in BC. After recently introducing my close friend Julian (Sir Kutz) to the Van city and Island scenes, he's just as impressed as I have been for years now. I can't promise that every aspect of every performance will be flawless, but I guarantee I will always put 110% into preparing for and delivering my sets. You guys have shown me so much love, that's the least I can promise. Mike (Brat) and I will be going on a US/Canadian tour in September, and I hope to see you all somewhere along the way. Much luv from Seattle... Doug (Dig-Dug) www.uscevents.com |
