If the product is made in the USA you will not pay any duty on the items but will pay GST and PST on the declared purchase price on the receipt.
If the item is not made in the USA then you will pay duty based on a rate scale they have then pay GST and PST on top of that. |

You can call Canada Customs on their infoline and they will tell you what the rate is based on the country of manufacture. Every country has a different duty attached to it.
For example Swiss watches have a crazy amount of duty nailed onto them due to the country of origin, while a product made in Japan will be about 20% |

I forgot to mention that if you don't declare the items and get caught be ready to get punished.
They might not confiscate the item but if there is duty to be charged on it Customs can apply a multiplier to it. Once time they did a search of our vehicle and my friend forgot to declare one carton of open Marlboros even though he declared the other 2 sealed cartons. After a bit of questioning they said if he wanted the smokes he would have to pay 500% duty on all of them which was approx $400. Needless to say they were left behind. |

or you can get rid of the receipts and claim you brought them into the states with you, pay no duty, and no gst.
take some records with u so it looks like u were just spinning there oh, and when ur entering the states and they ask why, you're spinning at a party there. Your records are in the trunk |

^^^ Kinda hard when they are brand new in the box.
But be careful as I tried this once and the officer wanted to see the receipt for the item from Canada before he would release it back into the country. Since it was a Denon amp I went to A&B sound, bought one, changed the date on the photocopy, picked my amp up and returned the one I bought and saved over $500. |

^^
I tried to order off the web and i was told that if it broke after 6 months i would have to get the equipment repaired on my own. Lets say it is covered... sending a 25 pound turntable down south is not exactly cheap and its not going to be quick. At least if you buy locally you can get a replacement in the mean time. If your buying those new numarks.. i would def buy locally. my 2 cents. let me know how it goes |

Well if the items are decks you should go speak to Dan at Masterplan and see if he can hook you up and tell him you are from FnK as there is special pricing for members.
There are things to be said about paying the extra $$$ and having a local shop do the warranty and repair work for you. |

There is this place in Blain(US and 30 min drive from van) that you can send all your goods to under your own name. If you send to them, you will only pay regular US shipping costs, pay no duty(if you decide not to declare on the way back), and pay no Brokerage fees (Fucking bullshit fees). All you pay them is something meger like 5-10 bucks but already youve saved over 1/2 price in shipping.....
Get back to me if you are interseted = ) |

i still think you should buy them locally. at least you don't have to worry about them being damaged during shipping and all these other crazy costs of customs, taxes, insurance (shipping), shipping.. and if they are damaged, they are alot easier to get fixed.. rather than shipping them back to where you got them at your expense.
just be careful =) |
