email help?
I used to have a crazy friend and she signed me up for copious amounts of junk mail companies(I am not kidding) so now every day I get about 200 emails asking me how my baby named chubba is doing(???!!) as well as so many links to porn?!!
It's getting so annoying and everytime I delete or block the names they still come back!! Everytime I check my emails I have to search through so much useless shit! Some of the junk mail is disguised to make it seem like I know the person sending it to me,but then I open it and it's some random advertisement ! HELP? |

replying to the spapmers only serves to flag the account as having an actual person reading it. its value is raised immensely then, and you will get even more spam. though, it seems the account is beyond salvaging now. |

block them one by one..I know if its a hotmail account it can stop all
incoming emails from certain domains. Eg :You could block [email protected] or everyone with a @spamer.com email. Its slow and does the trick, also clear you cookies and un-install apps from the net. |

you're only allowed up to 1000 blocked email addresses with hotmail. you'll soon find that the limit is quite inadequate. as well, spammers spoof the addresses that they originate from, meaning anything can be used, and need not be used again. also, the @domain.com isn't useful since they often spoof highly used domains, and might lead you to blocking out email that you'd actually want. a better plan would be to just turn on the hotmail inbox protector. it does a fairly good job of seeing what's spam and what's not, and errs to the side of caution. you'll probably see a few slip by, but that's generally a good thing since it means it's less likely to filter what you actually want. you'll be able to kill 95% of spam this way. i know yahoomail and probably other webmail providers have features like this. even the big isps in the states are making software for blocking spam on POP3 accounts (ie, outlook, eudora). i don't think telus or shaw offer anything yet, but there are a few apps in development that might help. just do a google search for "spam" and you'll find something useful within the first 10 or so hits. |

are you using hotmail??
if you are, set up your junk mail folder, than set it up to exclusive. this way basically anyone NOT on your safe/contact list will be filtered to your junk mail folder. anything in your junk mail folder does not count towards your space limit either, so you won't be fucked over by not getting good emails if you haven't checked it for 2 days or something. the junk mail folder is also emptied every little while, so when you do check it, look through to see if there's anything you want, then add that person to your safe list or contact list, then they will always go to your inbox. this is, of course, assuming that you're using hotmail. |

^^ dccnet, is it webmail or do you use something like outlook??
if you use outlook you can always use the junk mail filter in there. it doesn't work as good as the one in hotmail (but with outlook, who's worrying about size?) and it helps to filter out the majority of crap ya get.. that's what i use. |
