if you're really interested in Freud, you should read my theories of personality textbook, "Beneath the Mask: An Introduction to Theories of Personality" by Christopher F. Monte. it's neat because you get a glimpse into the life of Freud, his clients and documents about their sessions, as well as a bit of the historical development of freudian psychology. not only that, but they also include many of his writings. I agree, some of the stuff is kinda overwhelming, but once you get used to it, you realize just how fucking brilliant Freud was! anyways, I just thought it was cool that you take an interest in Freud. not enough people seem to realize he's more than just some sex maniac :P --Joanne :P |

Sorry it's actually called "A Primer of Freudian Psychology" and it's by Calvin S. Hall, it's a really old book and my copy has totally fallen apart so I couldn't find the cover.
Thanks for the advice I'll definitely have to check out the book you mentioned. I'm just totally fascinated with Psychology and since Freud is attributed with so much of it's development I just find him so interesting. thanks again :) |

Brave New World is great for a very realistic science fiction
A heartwarming, simpler read is "Awake and Dreaming" it's set in vancouver so that kinda makes it cool cuz you can really get some good imagery going of the places they're talking about... like... common who hasn't been to Granville st? lol |

hey pooks
check out A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I can't remeber the author but the nice librarian should know it. and since your on your way to the area try out, Down and Out in London, by george orwell. I haven't read it yet but I'm gonna try to pick it up before I go. giver ta' fuck Keith its always cool when people ask about books on a forum or even in a room, you can totally see all the diferent ways people think and feel about books, some wanna be cool because they think books=smart and some just want to spread the word of thier favorite authors. I think books are books, that shit is way cooler than most people realize, like dirt, dirt is some heady shit, and boxes, fuck I hate boxes, my first 4 jobs as a kid were all involving either making, packing, organizing or emptying boxes. I've moved on though, right now I'm a Professional Swamper, I carry cabinets, like a donkey carries down and out cowboys. |

Everyone pulls out their 'I'm so deep' this is what i read for fun books
Courtney said she's just getting back into reading. I don't know that Mein Kampf or Shakepeare is what she's looking for (I could be wrong though) Wicked :The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West - fantasticly fun book Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon books - The Mists of Avalon is my fav out of all of them I love Anne Rice novels - Interview with The Vampire is good - but her witch books are better....and more sex - though not so much that it's trashy :) Douglas Coupland - City of Glass it's all about our fair city and is a nice light read.. and of course, Microserfs -- that book is just ridiculously good! |
