Help This Sistah Out!!
Alright...this gurlie has got to get herself graduated by Jan. I need 3 more provincially examinable courses. I'm taking the courses from September to January. I need to register now, and I have no idea what to take. Any suggestions?
I'm doing my English right now, so that's done and over with. And I was thinking about doing French/Geography/Biology. The school that I'm going to doesn't offer the first two tho. Maybe I should take English Lit/History/Biology? Not sure if I should take the Lit tho, cause I suck ass at writing essays. Which is better...Geography or History? Ahhhh...help me out!! Need 3 more provincial courses...which ones do you guys suggest I take? *NO MATH PLEASE!!* Erica :AZN: |

do not take french unless it is CRUCIAL to have for whatever post-secondary institute you are going to... look into it, most universities will accept a grade 11 language. depending on the program u want to go into... the french provincial is extremely hard... even for wiz kids...
geography has been known time and time again to be the easiest social studies course... it also comes with the easiest provincial... as long as u show up for class most of the time, and pay a decent amount of attention, you shouldn't have any troubles... history is also a generally easy subject... but of course, a lot of memorization is involved... and good english skills come in handy because you will be writing 2 essays on the provincial exam (your choice from a few topics... usually something to do with the cold war, vietnam war, the depression, or other significant events in the 20th century...) english lit. isn't a provincially examinable course... is it? well, it wasn't 2 years ago... but it's a really disappointing course if you're a real english fanatic... it's hard to find a good teacher for lit... most of them stick to the curriculum, as the course is fairly strict on what you read... bob don't recommend this course... biology, is ass-fucking hard... i went into the provincial with 33% in the class... muahahaha... but i studied for about 4 days straight before the provincial, and walked out with a 71% test score, and a BARELY passing mark in the class... but i'm not a science'y kinda person... plus i skipped half the term... there is a hell of a lot of memorization for this class... big stupid words, ugly stupid abbreviations... DNA, RNA, MRNA, FUCKYOU was usually my response... what else is there... chem/physics... ugh... couldn't help u there... not my cup o' tea... math... no what else is there?? |

the french provincial wasn't that hard at all...parts were kinda fucked up but overall it was pretty easy (granted the school i go to is like 1/3 french immersion)
the geography provincial is super easy i found the biology one to be pretty easy i took the chem one in grade 11 and it was fucking HARD. then again i suck shite at chemistry so i dunno. and yeah math...i can't do long division let alone fucked up crazy ass algebra. but some people find math 12 really easy...i didn't. and the provincial was crazy. i sat there for like an hour doing nothing cuz i couldn't do half the questions |

um..yeah..math sucks!!
history...its pretty alrite..lotsa memorizing....if ur interested in history stuff..then u'll have fun...but if u hate it...don't take the course cuz u'll be bored outtta ur mind~... bio..i sucked at bio but if u like learnign abotu the human body..then go for it..also lotsa memorizing.. eng lit..if u like to analyze poems..and stuff...ur gonna be learning about how poetry and prose differed in each of the ages...and study certain ones...lots to learn..sum stuff is fun and interesting..other stuff is boring.. i dunnno about geography..i never took it..sorry if i was no help but yeah..good luck deciding~..:Lazee: |

Thanks so much for your input guys...
I think biology is a given, even though it's a shit load of memorizing. I SHOULD take it since I want to go into psychology. I'll take geography, simply because it has an easy provincial. And I'm still deciding on the third...not sure about French anymore. It has always been my best subject, but since I've been outta school since Jan, I don't remember much. I pick up languages pretty easily though...*hmmm* I HATE stuff like history...I guess it'll prolly be Bio, Geo, and French as I originally decided. Just wanted some input, so thanks peeps! :) Erica :AZN: |

even though everyone seems to hate it, i LOVED english lit!! it is like, the easiest course. even if you're not the best at writing essays. since it's all about analyzing, there is lots of room to bull shit.
and for actually writing the essay, you just have to stick to that basic essay format. introduction (topic sentence, filler sentence, thesis) body#1-- follows what is stated in thesis body#2-- follows what is stated in thesis body#3-- follows what is stated in thesis conclusion (restatement of thesis, filler sentence, restatement of topic sentence) i swear by it!!! hahaha but i loved lit. and if you end up taking it, i i will give you tons of help!! ((oh, and by the way, do NOT TAKE HISTORY!)) |

Ummm, here
well, this totally depends on what u're interested in, and how u learn.
history is an awesome course to take. u learn a lotta shit about why the world is the way it is, today. and much helpful background into general areas regarding life itself. i found biology a tough course and dropped it....but my teacher was a bitch and thought i was on drugs all the time. hehehe liturature is a great course too, u learn lots about shit u'll have to use after gradding. geography is a lame course, and no one regards it on ur grad papers. anywho, hope this may help bit. good luck kiddo! *hugz* |

those sound like some good choices erica!
i recomend geography cuz its probably the easiest provincials. Most of the exam is opinion questions and bull shitting, so if your creative and can make BS sound realistic, you'll ace it. Just pay some attention in class to get the jst of it, and make up the rest. French was pretty hard. Well for me anyways. I didn't pay much attention in class for the second half of the semester so i didn't understand as well as i should have. It's a lot of work to stay on top of everything and make sure you understand EVERYTHING...and all the stupid little grammer rules....grr. but if you keep a strong consistant effort going, then it can be a cake walk. I liked bio and did ok in it. if you can memorize loads of facts and names and shit then this is a good course to take. The exam was pretty hard though. i started studying 2 days before the exam and there is NOOO WAAAY you can absorb all the material in that amount of time cuz there's soo much! I ended up getting 61% on the exam :( Just remember: BIO 12 is a LOT of work! so if your up to it and can work your ass off, then go for it. I guess it all depends on what YOUR intersted in. Cuz if your taking a course and you find it really interesting, it can make all the difference in the world. hope you find something you like. good luck! |
