Check out www.stevesdigicams.com as I found his reviews to be quite good.
If you are looking at up to $1500 for a pro quality SLR body type camera there are quite a few choices. If you are looking for something for general use I suggest you keep in mind that if the camera is too big you won't probably carry it around so you then won't have it on hand to use it. With that in mind I ended up selecting a Fuji 4700 a couple of years ago as it was the best combination in terms of price, size and image quality. |

Neil, unless you plan to develop pictures larger than 4x6 (which is normal size), 2.0Megapixels is all you need. If your a professional, then maybe a 5Megapixel is what your looking for. I have a Canon Powershot a70 and I recommend it highly. It's a 3.1Megapixel which is great because I can do 4x6 and 5x8 and perfect quality. It's not very heavy, and it takes regular batteries. This is great because if your power dies you can just buy batteries at a corner store and not worry about carrying around another battery pack. If you buy rechargable batteries you'll be set, a fully charged set will take around 100-150 pictures. If you going to buy one, buy it at Staples. They have a 150% Pricematch and you can use coupons to lower the price. If your interested I can give you all the details. I wouldn't want to spend $1500 on a digi because what if I lost it. `t1m PS - 10 Free Digitial Pictures at Futureshop [pick up only at Broadway location though :(] |

^ whoa whoa whoa, you've got $1500 to spend?
you're getting a Sony DSC-F717, and that's that. if you want you can wait for the new F828 that'll be out in the near future... four CCD's! large blackness! fancy pants not included. check the slashdot post on it |

i got a 'Sony DSC-F717' a few months ago. It was too big n heavy. but it was simply gawd. It is the shit to have if you live for photographs..[like sam]. haha.
but then i found myself spending more money than i should and getting more than i need. so i returned it and bought 'Kodak DX4530 5MP' ... the quality is the same (to me... i ain't no pro). its just the functions that are diff. but i couldn't really use the functions on the first cam cuz it was too fukken complicated. i don't wanna stare at a view for 20 minutes to figure out a way to make it look trippy!! haha but with the new cam its simple n shit. so if you want something small-fast and good quality, i'd say get a kodak! its less than 700 too =D respect. |

epinions.com and cnet.com have reports on all kinds of stuff, computers, cameras etc. Best thing about them is the individual user reports. These can alert you to problems with a product, that might take you a while to become aware of if you buy something without researching it. After a month you can't return the product.
One thing to check out with dig.cameras is the battery life. I know 3 ppl with digicams bot in last few months: - one has a 2 mpixel Nikon, it is fine for up to 5x7" prints. - another has a 4 mpixel Kodak, easy to use, about $600 at Staples - another has 6 mpixel Canon pro-sumer, expensive big and complicated, he gets that kind of stuff at http://www.bhphotovideo.com in USA - good prices but maybe no Canada warranty |

i bought dj4's old camera off of him..its actually pretty good..however like he mentioned i find the size is a huge factor..when im getting all sweaty by rave dancing i don't want this clunky camera bouncing around in my pocket so im thinking that i may purchase a smaller camera that can fit into my pocket and not bother me when im rave dancing....perferably it'll have an opitcal zoom.
the only thing that is preventing me from doing this is that, as you may have noticed im not that serious about photography. Actually i don;t reaklly care for it at all, i only bought the camera so i could take trippy pictures of shit when i was high at raves. So because of the fact that i don't use it that much, id find it pretty hard to justify spending another 600 bucks on something im only going to use once or twice a month. |
