College/Uni--who's headed there next week?
Okay. I guess it's pretty much close enough to "that time of year" to post this. Summer holidays are almost over, we have one more weekend before school, and then it's back for another few semesters.
Who's heading to/back to school this year, which school are you heading to and what program are you diving into? I've been out of highschool for 4 years now. Took some general studies courses at Kwantlen, but they're pointless then found bcit last year and took a few courses there. This year I'm headed back to BCIT but for the 2 year Broadcast Communications-Radio program. -desiree |

desiRAWR...can you tell me a bit more about your first year in that communications program? i'm hoping to get into ryerson's radio and television arts for the fall 2004 semester.
so yeah, that being said, i'm NOT going back to school. taking a year off. it's going to be kind of weird living at home again and not on my own in montreal. been used to living on my own terms but i'll deal. |

Amaretto Angel: This year IS my first year in the program. All I know is that it's a very demanding program and quite difficult to get into (there were over 300 applicants, and only 42 get into the program). I was going to say, why go to Ryerson, when you can go to BCIT, but then I noticed that you live in Montreal, so I bet that Ryerson is closer. lol. Anyways, BCIT and Ryerson are 2 of the best schools to take this program at. You are guaranteed a job coming out of BCIT. I know that I have 9 courses the first semester, I just don't know what they are yet (I'll find out the first day of school). and then the second semester of the first year includes 8 courses I believe plus a few weeks of practicum. The second year is about the same idea, but with a longer practicum. I don't think I can give any more info at the moment, but if there's anything else you'd like to know, PM me and I'll see if I can help you out.
Taralyn: I will keep you updated:D. -desiree |

Miss T...Thanks for the info! I'm kinda looking to just dive straight into a degree program, but I appreciate your help!
DesiRAWR...I actually am in Vancouver. Should change my profile. Did my first year at McGill but I've decided to take a year off and try to get into a program that focuses around communications design. I hope your first year at BCIT is a positive one for you! What is the name of the program? I definitely want to look into it some more. And what were the requirements? Did you need a portfolio? |

Amaretto Angel: The program is Broadcast Communications-Radio.
I'm not sure what the portfolio would be for regarding this program, as it's learning the runabouts of the radio biz and everything to do with radio stations from writing commercials to producing commercials to promotions and publicity, etc. But anyways, no. you don't need a portfolio. The requirements are some highschool classes (english 12, math 11), relevant experience is nice (volunteer, arts experience), references, 500 word essay, typing test (must type 25 wpm...haha I took the test and it was almost 70 wpm), then you take a test (current events, general knowledge, spelling, grammer) and if you pass that, you get an interview with the board members. It's a long process to get in, but only because it's such a popular program. You can get more info on the BCIT website. www.bcit.ca. I don't know what exactly communications design entails...so I'm not sure if this is the type of program you're looking for. I believe it's also just a diploma program. Another school with a similar program is Columbia College. It's a private college, the program is shorter (10 months), and it costs more than what BCIT costs, but I haven't heard if it's very good or not. good luck!:) |

uhh. to get into that program, yes, you do need to have graduated from highschool. Some life experience and related experiences after highschool can help too. They rarely take students in that program that have JUST graduated from highschool the year before, but it has happened.
I hope this answers your question. -desiree:) |
