I am thinking about signing up for a trip with the Global Citizen's Network. It's an organization that offers various volunteer opportunities in the following places: New Mexico, Arizona, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Guatemala, Kenya, and Tanzania. I want to go for the March 7th-28th, 2004 trip to Nepal. I know that many of you are working/going to school, but if you could take some time off or are free during that period of time, let me know if you are interested in coming along. I am not going on the earlier trip because I am planning to do some fundraising (hold events, go door-to-door, etc.) to raise the $$ needed to fund the airfare and trip costs. I also want to give myself enough time to do some more research about the history and the people, so that I won't be going over there without having any deeper knowledge of what I'm helping out with. The website says: "Projects could include roofing repair, building a public bathhouse, renovation of an irrigation canal, renovation of a water drainage ditch, business development of a recycling center, building a job training center for tailoring traditional clothes and building furniture. Along with assisting with the current project, volunteers also have opportunities to learn about Tibetan history, culture, religion and art and teach in the settlement school. "
Let me know if any of you are interested in coming along. If you are interested but March isn't a good time for you, I highly encourage you guys to look into the various different trip dates for the different places as there are many that are avaliable. You don't necessarily have to pay for the airfare and trip costs yourself. There are many different methods of fundraising that you can do to help out.
