Music Icon Johnny Cash dead at 71

At 2am this morning Johnny Cash died from problems due to diabetes....

This guy was an inspiration for MANY of the musicians we know and love today.... a sad day for music.

I am a huge Johnny Cash fan and have been for years.

I think what has amazed me is that Mr. Cash has really withstood the test of time. Not only have generations of fans listened to his music. Johnny Cash himself has also withstood so many things in his life, growing up poor on a farm commune in Alabama in the depression, his brother (and best friend) dying tragically at a young age, divorce, several really bad runs with addiciton to prescription drugs, speed, whatever he could get his hands on..and lived to tell the story (over and over again)

His is the only biography I have ever read, he's lead such a fascinating life.

I had a good cry about it this morning.

Rip Mr.cash 1932 - 2003 september

i hurt my self today
to see if i still feel
a focus all the pain
the only thing thats real
the needle tears thehole
the old firmilar state
try to kill it all the way
but i remember every thing
wot have i become
my sweetist friend
every one i know goes away in the end
and you could have it all my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt
i wear this crown of thorns upon my liers chair
full of broken thoughts i can not repair
beneith the stains of time the feeling disapears
you are someone else i am still right here
what have i become my sweets friend
everyone i know goes away in the end
and you could have it all my empire of dirt
i will let you down i will make you hurt
if could start agiain a million miles away
i will keep myself

Did anyone catch his version of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage"?

THE best cover of any song I've ever heard in my life.

Yeah I was raised listening to Johnny Cash. He epitomized everything good country is and should be. A true artist to the end. He will be sorely missed.

Hurt is a Fucken Nine Inch Nails song... Trent Reznor wrote hurt in 1993 in response to one of his best friends dying of a heroin overdoes.
If your gonna remember Johnny Cash use one of his own fucken songs to do it... I recomend 'The Lonely Stranger'

no shit, all these fake ass johnny fans. HURT is no where near his best work. and it's a damn cover.

my personal fave: a boy named sue.

1 quick johnny fact: the man was definetely a leader in bringing the rape of native americans to the mainstream when that shit wasn't something you talked about.

R.I.P. you will be missed johnny.

no shit man - i was always partial to "Folsom County Blues" and "Born to Lose" - I don't know if that's how you spell it but you know what im talkin about.

There are only a few individuals/bands out there that really reach across all music boundaries/genres and this guy was the originator of that group. It doesn't matter what kind of music you listen to, chances are you like his. He started his career with ELVIS of all people (a long time ago), played more shows than almost anybody else (the speed kinda helped that for a bit I guess) and was just one of the coolest mofos ever.

It's sad that he's gone but what a life he had.

^when johnny was 23 and still considered 'rookish' he was invited to sun studios to jam with elvis, roy orbision and a 3rd fellow who i can't recall.

this one time session was referred to as the 'million dollar quartet'

The best Johnny Cash Album ever is At San Quentin released in 1969. Everyone should buy it.
