102.7 fm @ 8:00 pm on Wed. Oct. 8th
i'm currently workin for statistics canada, which is the data collection agency for our federal government. we do a variety of surveys with households, busniess' and farms to provide confedential information that is essential for the proper operation of a country. (eg. unemployment rate, inflation rate, health care needs)
how ever we are in a contract dispute and are in a legal strike position. we aren't over paid federal governement workers whining for more money either. here are some stats on stats canada interviewers.... - fed. gov't clerks (an easier job than ours) earn 30% more than we do. and clerks doing work comparable to ours earn a minimum of 70% more. - canada customs and revenue agency as well as canada post pay employees for doing comparable work 40% - 73% more than we get. - our field interviewers who do work from their homes get no allowance for use of their cars, homes, or phone lines, all of which is necessary for the job. they are expected to pay for all of it. - we start at $10.96 per hour. and only get a raise once we work the same number of hours as some one who works full time would work in 1 year. but we only get part time hours. so to get a raise i takes at least 2 years. ok, so why am i telling you all this? well, one reason is just to let you guys know whuts goin on. and the secoind, to hopefully gain some support. our unions reps will be on 102.7 fm at 8:00 pm tonight . please tune in and hear whut they have to say. tell your parents, your friends, neighbours, dealers, mailman, who ever. and even if ya dont, thanks for reading. |

^ its not just here though, the interviewers wage is consistent across canada.
but BC "sucks" because our cost of living is a lot higher than in other provinces, which obviously makes it a lot harder to make ends meet. this is just the begining of a long and bitter battle. |
