if you want a sportsty car... I'd recommend a first generation Nissan 240SX (89/90 years) They look pretty decent, and they have decent power stock, aswell as rear wheel drive. On average they are selling for 4000-5000 right now, and about 6000-8000 for the 2nd gens (91-93) which look a little bit nicer and have a few more features. also an early 90s integra or prelude would be an option in the same price range.

hope this helps

Get a Honca Civic hatchback.

Cheap, reliable and really good on gas.

WTF are you talking about?

You can pick a model from the 90's up all day for less than $5000.

A Civic will run circles around the Cavalier/Sunfire in terms of economy and reliability.

It was and still is one of the best economy cars out on the market.

The fit and finish on a Civic puts an American car to shame. My sister owns a Cavalier and it's crap compared to a Civic.

nothing will break, but if it does u can go down to the surrey junk yards and pick up parts for little or no money almost!! they have cavaliers / sunfires everywhere there
The irony of this statement in unbelievable.

if you want a good reliable car for approx 5000 dollars, go and get yourself a 95 or later sunfire or cavalier.. those cars are great on gas, and low on insurance
BABHAHSGHAGSHAS

JBODIES ARE PIECES OF SHIT! DONT BUY A GM!!

My sister wons a 97 cavy that she got for 5k and its the biggest piece of shit in the world.

240sx's arent very fast, and rwd dosnt mean shit

Sunfires and Cavaliers are shit! Let me tell you, I've had both, and both gave me major head aches! I hated them. Now I have a '93 Honda Prelude which I love!! I'm selling it because I bought another car, and I need the money to travel, so let me know if you are interested (The price is a little over your budget but it's a great car). I will be posting it up here soon as well with more details.

I would reccommend a Honda Civic though for reliability and durance - those things run forever! And also the older two door Honda Accords are great cars. The car I recently bought is a Toyota Tercel '93, which is a very good car also, but 4 door and I'm assuming you want something a little bit sporty??

since there are so many on the road, they are likely to get into more accidents, so thas why there are so many of em in the junk yards that have been in accidents.

There are more Civics on the road than any other car made.

The arguement that there are more of them on the road, therefore they get into more accidents is silly.

That just means owners of Cavaliers are crappy drivers then? Or they handle poorly so the car gets into more accidents?

but whatever, i see this is a honda crowd. i'd never buy a honda, well maybe a prelude buts that is.
Pro- Honda crowd? I never owned a Japanese car in my life.

I drive a gas guzzling Ford SUV myself.

CRX's are good cars too. It's all about the honda :)

Keep in mind though that good cars come from good owners that take care of them. You can have a car with high kms that has been taken care of really well, that runs perfectly and is in great shape - or you can have a car that has 50,000 kms that runs like shit cause the owner didn't maintain it.

Good luck!

I second the GTI notion, civics are weak and a dime a dozen.
I have always been happy with mine.
