Racist Comments made in the game of GOLF?
Well well well...look at what we have. I'm actually quite shocked to see this come from a professional golfer. It's like she has a problem with people who have an asian ethenicity. I personally think she deserves to die

come on, why are you surprsied? this isnt the first time a comment that could be considered racist has been made about a golfer by another golfer.
how bout what Fuzzy Zoeller said when Tiger Woods won the masters? - "That little boy is driving well and he's putting well. You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not to serve fried chicken next year." Then, as he was walking away, Zoeller snapped his fingers and added, "Or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve." [for the record, who ever wins the masters tournament chooses the menu for the next years dinner] does he deserve to die too? Last edited by say_whut; Oct 14, 03 at 10:06 AM. |

just because she thinks she's accomplished so much doesn't give her the right to still bash my ethenicity...
and say_whut: that is techinically as bad as saying he's a FOB...she's basically saying that people who don't speak english don't deserve to be on the tour. If it's killing why do people still pay to watch? It's amazing isn't it? |

dlo: i'm not saying that one comment was worse than the other. i'm just saying you shouldn't be so surprised that "racist comments [were] made in the game of GOLF?" racism is every where. my tiger woods example is just one of many examples of racism in the pro golf scene.
it's unfortunate that pepole have such narrow minds and can't appreciate people from other nationalities. but because she made a comment about people of your ethnicity she deserves to die? woulda ya feel so strong if she had made thoes comments about black people? |

say_whut: Yeah but notice how Golf is a sport where it's a game played with manners and respect. Obviously she does not have respect for the game and players with an asian ethenicity. I mean if she had said something against white people if she wasn't white herself...obviously you would react the same way. Sure i went a bit over board when saying she deserves to fucking die
I change that ...she should atleast make a public apology for her choice of words |

this thread is fucking stupid. why is dlo 604 in every thread that has an argument to it haha. The bitch made a racist comment to azns and she is wrong. But racism is everywhere and we cant stop it. The best way to fight it is to not be affected by it. Dlo604 as i can see is a person who cant hold it in and lets people step on him. Be strong my young one.

well, she did it. she made a public apology.
i doubt very much that she really means most of it and that shes only saying it because she has to. but she said it. From Jan Stephenson, Oct. 11, 2003: "I would like to express my deepest apologies to the Asian community for my comments regarding the article in Golf Magazine. By no means did I intend to hurt anyone nor were the statements racially motivated. I clearly understand how these comments could be taken as racial comments, and for that I am truly sorry. I value those relationships which I have both personally and professionally with individuals that are either Asian or of Asian descent. "The interview was conducted with a controversial undertone, and understanding that, I should have been more aware of the volatility and the potential negativity it would bring. After hearing the statement read back to me prior to the release of it, I requested that the editor reword that portion. Once again, I was wrong in making these comments, and I know I must be more responsible with my thoughts and/or comments when giving an interview. "I am sorry to the LPGA players that are hurt by these comments, and I ask for your forgiveness. I have spent 30 years of my life on this tour, and it has become my life. The LPGA has been my family and I have given this tour and this family everything I have to give. As in life, there are ups and downs, and I sincerely hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me and to move forward from this. "To all Asian-Americans, the Asian community, the fans of the LPGA, and to anyone else who has been offended by these statements, I am genuinely sorry to you as well, and ask you to accept my apology. As an Australian residing in another country I have experienced what it is like to be singled out, and I was not sensitive to that feeling or yours. Once again, I am sorry." http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/spor...golf-headlines |

If i were to meet her i would accept that apology. Atleast she knows what she did was wrong. I agree with her people make mistakes but she's a professional athlete and should've watched her mouth before actually saying the things she said. She should've known better and realized that this was going to be released to the public. I'm glad she's able to live up to here wrongs. Nobody is perfect and i'm glad that this statement was released. Even though it took longer than it should've it's been done and put a side. Hopefully for all those other asians that we're offended will take this apology seriously and forgive her. She's made a huge impact on the LPGA and i'm glad that she was professional enough to live up to her mistakes.
