Mac Help!!!
Who has a mac? I need some help. My Mac skills do not even compare to my PC skills. :soak: I bought an external usb2.0/firewire enclosure for my WD 80GB 7200rpm 8mb buffer harddrive. It runs fine on my PC under USb 2.0. However, when I get to school during trasnfer of large files it would freeze. Sometimes when I run a program it will freeze. Any ideas why?

what's the model?
apple doesn't do USB2 (except on the new g5s), unless you buy a seperate pci card for it. the drive connections are reverting back to USB2's backwards-compatibility to USB1, which can be flaky at best. LaCie does firewire drives (some with usb2 connections, but all with firewire), so it wouldn't have usb2 problems. |

MissBehaviour,
Lacie drives are mad expensive. Almost $400. Where do u work by the way? rawb, its a usb and firewire exclosure. I'm gonna try 2 return the exclosure and hdr and get one that is pre-built. That could be the problem. :soak: |

Compusmart rocks I must say. Never had any problems when I've gotten items from there. Staples currently has a deal on a Acomdata 80G external Usb2.0/Firewire drive. It's going for $299 - $50 rebate. You can also use a $50 off of $300 coupon to drop the price even more. Works out to be $199 + tax. I'm gonna pick one up if I can return the drive I have now. *Crosses Fingers* |

I asked a couple of guys I work with which drives would work well with a mac...And apparently Acomdata isn't one of them (in fact one guy said it probably WON'T work)...Iomega works, "but not well", Yamaha "if they have one", or LaCie.
There's a LaCie ext hd coming in that was designed by Porsche (Oooh...Ahhhh! :319:). The USB2 40gb is $199.99 straight up, and the firewire 80gb is $269.99. |
