What's The Largest Company In The world?
Who would have thought...
2002 Wal-Mart ranked #1 on the FORTUNE 500 listing. http://www.walmartstores.com/wmstore...Mainabout.jsp? Last edited by Senior; Oct 17, 03 at 04:41 AM. |

It's Citigroup if you go by assets - about 800 billion
what is this ranking based on, cause even in gross sales and such GE has got to be way ahead of Walmart - they were the biggest company in the world for a long long time. Last edited by pbreak; Oct 17, 03 at 07:11 AM. |

no surprise that its walmart. i heard that this compant was crazier then an oil company and i thought yea rite. Aparently walmart has this system where they use to re stock their products and it works wonders for them. Well the system isnt really a stroke of genius. Its simply when something gets taken off the shelf they find out rite away and put a new one back on. I dont know i just heard this from somebody i could be wrong.

walmart is sickening. They move their stores into small towns forcing smaller local stores to shut down. They make the town entirely dependant on there jobs and product. Most of the stores double as grocery stores, so they really dominate almost every necessary product that people have to buy. They pay no more then minimum wage and people are expected to live off that.
The people are money grubbing whores. Five members of the family that owns wal-mart are among the ten richest people in the world. They even took out life insurance policies (without consent) on their employees and named themselves as the sole beneficiary. scummy huh? They are america's second largest employer. on average a new wal-mart or sam's club opens every day around the world! This much success and still the majority of wal marts employees who have children live BELOW the poverty line. In america employees are asked to pay more than twice the industry average for health care. i dont know too much about it, but from what i do kno wal-mart sucks. i dont shop there at all. |

(^) Werd... I have yet to ever buy anything there. Also they are actually the largest private employer in the world. By saying they are the second largest employer in the U.S. I guess you're refering to the U.S. Government as the largest (they are)?
I wouldn't be able to vouch that all that information is correct but I do know that they use predatory pricing tactics to put other stores out of business. Also they try their best to have as many part time employee's as they are inelligeble for benifits. |

A friend of mine works at wallmart and she didnt start at minimum wage...shes getting paid more then i expected wallmart to pay. Maybe it has to do with the reigion though, cause if the put one in a small town....i could see why they would start with minimum wage....sickos...but they are cheep for somethings

unfortunatly ive been working for walmart for 3 years and 4 months.. and maybe it does slow small bussinesses down a bit.. but not very much ...... they pay more then a lot of other big bussinesses/// and the walmart health care is actually really really good.. (my mom works there and her health care is better then my friends mom who works for the government) and if it wasnt for the walmart here there would be 200 people without a job.. cause there is no where else to get jobs here.. plus its alwyas a good job to have while in school ect.. |

if the people are complaining about only making minimum wage thats their fault, they can find another job. i bet alot of those people who work at walmart are glad they have a job. wal mart dosnt owe anyhting to its employees as long as it follows the rules that the government sets out for em. walmart does suck tho.. |

i dont think suberbian canadians can grasp small town life in middle america. It's just too foriegn for us i guess. you have to understand these towns are running fine and dandy before wal-mart comes along forces all the small businesses that have been operating for years to shut down. Small business can not compete with giants they have no ability to do so. why? because of predatory pricing tactics as Nolan just said. This means that wal-mart moves into a town and sells things below cost forcing smaller stores into bancruptcy. Once this is accomplished and they are now the sole suplier they raise the prices to crazy levels. Studies have already shown that for every two jobs created by a Wal-Mart store, the community loses three. Jobs that are retained by a community are just shifted from local businesses to wal-mart. it's a fact. as for health care, in AMERICA wal-mart covers only 38% of its employees. 6 out of ten emplyees have no health care. many of them are woman with kids. The bennifits that wal-mart employees recieve, they pay for themselves. These "bennifits" cost up to 1$ per hour of their daily wage. http://www.abetterlife.ca/myths.html wal-mart uses scare tactics to keep unions from forming so that bennifits and wages stay minimal. in quesnel just this past May they told employees to call the police if they were aproached by union reps. The bc labour board gave them a violation of workers' right to organize, for doing so. they attempt tofrighten employees into not petitioning or voting in favour of unions by not answering whether or not the store will remain open if they do so. This reply could go on forever, wal-mart is fucked up. We our allowing monopolists to destroy our future. We're not supposed to be greatful for some crap ass minimum wage job where we pay our own benifits and america profits. |
