but if you're just talking about people dancing all night on drugs to repetitive music, it goes back a lot further than '84.... i don't know what was the first rave in Van, as i didn't live here at the time... but there was already a thriving electronic music scene here all through the 80s, so i'm sure it would be difficult to pinpoint exactly where it became a 'rave' scene... |

there's always been late night dance parties, etc....but in 1991 there was a party called Crave....it was the first event to feature straight out "techno/electronica", the first event to really take it's cue from british rave culture and style, from the flyer to the djs to the size of the event, and it more importantly, for the club scene it was the first event that i can remember that was described as a "rave", a new phenomenon at that point...semantics maybe but what the hell....
i'd say that that was it.... |

i sure as hell dont know when raves started since i didnt start attending these parties till 1999. If my memory serves me correctly rite now id say sometime after the year 2000. Richmond made a new law baning raves from richmond (riverside, palace). Then it just got worse and worse and the whole trend of raves which was so crazy at the time started dieing out. I miss good ol days when theres a party to look forward to like every week and a massive like everymonth for sure. Hardhouse days rule!

I used to have this really cool video one of my sister's friends made. She was going to university for some sort of media degree or somethin, and she did a type of documentary on raves in Vancouver and all over the world... Too bad the bloody VCR ate the tape the first time I watched it, and I've never been able to watch it again... :finger:
maybe I'll try and see if I can track another copy down and see if it has the answer... |
