Hidden Cameras

good or bad?
i think they do it over in the uk and europe and that it works in helping police catch lawbreakers. All i know is sometimes they catch some hilarious shit on film.
Anybody ever hear of an ifrared camera that makes your pockets glow when you have drugs in your possesion?

hidden cameras scare me :(

I already check new bathrooms for them, and if the mirrors are 2-way.

However, people aren't exactly the most observant or aware creatures on earth. So if we had other eyes watching and recording public areas etc. then I think alot more wrong-doers would be caught and prosecuted, missing children wouldn't be so missing and so on.

london has the most extensive camera surveilance system in the world right now.
On any given day people can be recorded on 300 different cameras all monitored by police.

^Yeah it was supposed to stop all the holigans going to the soccer games and seemed like a good idea, but more over it was a trojan horse. I got friends in London telling me how a guy smoking a joint got arrested for being in the scope of one of these cameras. I'm sure worse things have happened. Let's not forget the face recognition software that comes with 'em! 1984 wut?

Washington D.C. has about 3000 cameras and is on the same path, anyone know the numbers for London? Akeel I can tell you right now it's more than 300.

Me, I'm of the opinion "the less cameras, the better".

sure it sound all good but the thing is we take all that stuff for granted...when i comes down to your safety im sure you want someone to watch your back...just in the wrong hands does it go wrong. i don't belive that they should watch you for every little thing(iesmoking weed on a corner) its should be there so monitor the streets for crime like murder

the camera you're talking about pete, is the old sony night vision ones. you can see through clothes with it. so they look at your pockets and they can see if you have any drug shaped things in them. then they have reason to search.

to my knowledge, theres no way a camera could pick up chemicals in the drugs to make it glow.

actually it was installed to combat terrorism and protect the "square mile" which has more financial transactions done than any other financial market in the world.

i meant that an average can be captured in one day on 300 individual cameras just while going about their day. I dont know the exact number of total surveilance cameras operated but its well into the thousands. Asides from the facial recognition software they also capture the license plate of evey vehicle entering and leaving london.

I spent some time in the UK and europe studying on a criminology exchange program - lots of cool shit :)

So do I, I remember watching an episode of Maury that was about hidden camera's. Apparently there have been cases of people having hidden camera's on their shoes to look up women's skirts. Hotel rooms have also commonly been found to have camera's, which is just creepy!
I'm pretty sketchy about tanning salons and changing rooms as well, I always take a quick look around to make sure they don't have camera's.

That's interesting, and no doubt is true, but if that was the reason that was given to the public, I'm sure this operation wouldn't have been so successful. The reason I have given has come directly from a contact I have that has been living in London before the cameras went up. The majority of folks living in London were of the same opinion according to this contact.

Yeah as goes for the license plate recognition, the Autoban in Germany has been totally revamped about 2 months ago and is being monitored 24/7 for the majority of the highway.

Is there any online tutorials of this exchange progam by chance? Sounds pretty interesting though I wonder to what extent you were breifed on the whole camera issue.

I find myself to be at wits end when I hear of or see people talking about public monitoring like it was the next best thing since sliced bread. I really wonder in any of them actually read Orwell's 1984 cover-to-cover, since public surveillance is a deff precursor to that drab society.

PM me or get my email from george and i'll fill u in ;)

we were briefed pretty extensively. terrorist and militant religious group bombings were drastically decreased. The majority of these used to be done with car bombs - hence the license plate cameras. Asides from curbing "soccer" violence, terrorist attacks was the primary target for instigating 24 hour surveilance, it was just "convenient" that they could also survey the most important financial district in the world at the same time ;) funny how that works eh?

I think i still have my notes and papers around here somewhere if your interested.

ack Iknow! Those shows scare the crap out of me. NOT cool.

Stringbeans, you put your finger or fingernail if you have any, on the mirror. If you look from the side and there is space between your finger and the refflection, then its a "normal" mirror.

Akeel: Terrorist and religous extremists have been working with intelligence agencies for quite a while.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/internatio...773568,00.html

And let's not forget Hammas being founded by Israel with the likes of Isaac Raveen saying so on record as well as others.

I don't want to get into this too much but of course attacks would decline, it gives the impression to the public that it's a safeguard that works. Moreover, it's also a pretext to spread public surveillance technology around the world. If I were "the man" that's how I'd do it anyways.

And as for those papers I am very interested, dispatch me an email to [email protected] with any 411 and I'd be most obliged.

SEAN!: A little bit of paranoia is a lot more healthy than full fledged ignorance. But I don't think you really care, you're here to laugh and have fun no? You seem a little uncomfortable about all this I must say, is there anything you have to say (in favor or opposition) that will evolve this discussion, or are you more interested in pointing fingers and laughing? I'm waiting.

yeah im here to laff, but i also find it hard to believe that the powers that be are concerned enough about no bodies who arent a threat like you and me to expend the enormous abouts of capital and labour ti woudl take to control us like the government did in 1984. like what would the incentive be? most politicians dont get off on the thought of oppressing people so much that there willing to to go to great lengths to control and document our every move, when they have bigger things to worry about.

if your not fucking around its not worth the effort for them to bother you unless they didnt have anything better to do.

like ebomega was getting at in his 9 + 11 + 2 + 0 + 0 +1 = 23 post, i think alot of these conspiracy theorists are bored paranoid people who are looking for a conspiracy for everything and are grasping at anyhting to make their argument.

Some terrorist groups but not all. i dont want to get into theories though; i'm only concerned with facts.

its not an "impression" of a safegaurd that works. it is a safegaurd that works. within minutes a bomb threat can be traced, referenced and intercepted, largely due to the 24 hour monitoring that takes place. A single van can be tracked throughout the city and then interecepted. I dont believe in 24 hour surveillance, but it does work.

what it ultimately comes down to is this.

knowledge is power.

its all about the flow of information.

Baby steps man. Look into DARPA's Information Awareness Offices logo and then tell me that.

I must say I held your opinion some time ago myself. For me, it's the amount of coincidences that keep popping up that are said to be just that, coincidences.

Lame. I have on this computer 10+ articles this year alone that will prove otherwise. Well referenced articles I might add. I could argue all day and I bet you could retort all day so I am just going to say this, look into Bills C-35, C-36, Patriot Act and tell me we still have freedom of speach. We don't. It's getting a lot worse.

I'm sure that happens and it's unfortunate, but it's mostly harmless. However, the loss of free speach and civil liberties that are happening every day post 9/11 are very real and very harmful.

I don't want to get into this too much anymore ATM, but if you want send me a PM and I'll invite you over for drinks or your choice of poison. We can go over some documentaries and articles I have that may shed some light on this for you. Your call.
