so I forgot to show up for court today...

This is not good, not good at all... I am such a fucking retard... just traffic court, but still!

so one of three things can happen from not showing up:

1) The officer didn't show either and I can still win or the trial gets rescheduled - unlikely, but it would be nice.
2) They hold the trial without me and I end up paying over $100 for a single parking ticket (i hate Tribeca)
3) The judge issues a bench warrant for my arrest.

The last one didn't really concern me since it is a parking ticket and all, but when I said to the lady at the courts - "I doubt the judge would do that over a parking ticket." she replied that it was "... up to the judge" - fucking Monday mornings.. arhhh!!!

If you don't show you automatically lose whether the officer shows up or not.

not true, I talked to the people at the court and the judge can just throw the case out - so technically i don't win but I don't have a ticket anymore either.

The judge would more likely punish you for not showing up as you

a) Didn't show up
b) Made the officer show up (even if he/she didn't)
c) Were guilty of the offence

I missed the ferry to go to Gibsons to argue my case and the judge didn't care as she said it was up to me to get to court.

So get ready to ante up the fine.

You don't have to pay it, but get a couple of outstanding ones and you might have a bench warrant out for your arrest. I am pretty sure I have one for the 3 parking tickets I haven't paid.

My friend got taken to jail last year fro 4 outstanding parking tickets. He got pulled over for speeding on Christmas, the officer ran his plates and took him to jail... at least he didn't get another ticket. :c-tard:

Show up for court?

Were you disputing the ticket? If so, why?

because in quite a few cases the police officer doesnt show up, and you get out of paying a parking ticket.

I think the whole notion of disputing tickets is pretty strange...If you know full well you've done something wrong, what is so wrong with accepting responsibility for your actions instead of wasting my tax dollars to dispute a ticket. That appeal costs more than the fing ticket itself. CRIKEY!

I don't know, maybe I'm bitter because I had to take an unpaid day off of work because I was subpoenaed to witness in a trial because I witnessed a pedestrian getting hit while in a crosswalk. The driver got a ticket for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk and had the nerve to DISUPTE the ticket, not to mention the driver was on a cellphone at the time of an accident and ruined the girl's life that was hit.
FUCK

:P

wow this thread just reminded me about my traffic violation court date!- its not for another month....but it had already slipped my mind! I realy hope the cop doesnt show!
Can u end up paying more then your tic was issued for, even if u go? like what if the judge was in a realy bad mood? Is that possible/allowed?

The judge does have the power to increase the fine & penalty if he/she thinks you disputed it just to see if the officer shows up in court or not.

So if you are thinking of paying the fine anyway then just pay it.

I got into an accident near Christmastime a few years ago when I did 2 shoulder checks instead of just one, didn't notice the the car ahead of me suddenly slow down and rear ended someone.

The officer at the scene gave me a ticket for reckless driving and I thought that was adding insult to injury.

I disputed the ticket and when the officer was up to give testimony he said he lost his notepad which contained all his notes.

The judge threw the case out due to lack of evidence and when I left the courtroom the officer said to me "You can say 'Thanks' you know" and I didn't know what he meant.

He said that he was doing his job that day and when he left the scene he didn't like the fact that he gave me a ticket so he came to make amends and wish me a merry Christmas.

So don't think all officers are cold hearted people. :c-tard:

^^ yah, I got a ticket after the fact in an accident too - some 16 year hit me, but i was the one turning left (it was her fault, not getting into the details) so the cop had to give me a ticket... I think he didn't bother showing up to court because he knew it wasn't my fault and I got screwed by ICBC anyway.

And I know I'll probably end up having to pay more - but I wasn't disputing for the sake of disputing, I actually had a legitament arguement and my ticket was $80!

yup, that's the one - and I was like a foot past the stop sign when the bitch came speeding around the corner and instead of avoiding me actually turned her car right into me!! I was completely stopped for about 2 seconds before she hit me - can you get any more retarded.

soma - I don't need to go to court on other charges, so for the "undercover" cop that is on this forum (i'm assuming there is at least one), no i do not want to do that... but I'll give you a shout later and to see if you want to hang out and drink some soda and watch tv :276:

The verdict is in - they preceded without me and found me guilty (big surprise)... but apparently now I only owe $40 when the ticket was originally $80 - good enough for me, especially considering I didn't even show up!
