snake help
I'm on the hunt for a pet snake and need a little information/advice from anyone who owns, has owned, or knows anything about domestic snakes.
Ideally I want something tiny I can wrap around my hand, however I can't seem to find anything that small. A little green tree snake would be perfect, but I can't seem to find any. Are there any SMALL as in under 3-4 feet snakes that I would be able to find, or am I out of luck? I took a look at a corn snake today and he kind of caught my eye. He's a little larger than I'd like (usually matures at 3-4 feet long, and aproximately the width of a garden hose). I'd have to feed it mice which I'm not too happy about but I can deal... I'm also interested in a milk snake, But I"m not sure what type of milk snake I would be able to get my hands on around here, and how much they'd be. Also, ball pythons are mighty pretty but I'm not sure about there picky eating.. If anyone could give me any advice or tips on the mentioned snakes, And if there is a 1-2 foot, species out there I could find, then please let me know! thanks.. |

I loove snakes as long as they aren't large enough to constrict me to death and/or eat me, and they stay far far away from bodies of water.
Snakes= ok water= ok snakes + water = Jenna soiling herself It creeps the shit out of me for some reason, so I'm also a bit iffy about the watering bowl situation when I do get a snake  anyhoo... anyone actually like and know about snakes that can help me?? |

My uncle has always kept pet snakes...I don't know even a quarter as much about them as he does, but this site has some pretty good (and, thankfully accurate) information.
There are links to specific species of snakes at the bottom of the article-thing...that's the most valuable part, actually...they go into lots of detail. Good luck and happy snake hunting! :) |

I had a snake for a while. A small little garden snake, about a foot or so long.
I kept it in a fishtank (drained) and I fed it pillbugs and other insects regularly. Unless you plan on taking the snake out of its container and playing around with it (which I suggest not doing if it's a zippy little snake, I've heard stories of those things getting lost in heating vents etc.) then there's not really much to it. Just make sure it's fed, give it attention every now and then, and all should be well. |

I love love wrapping around my hand and arm and petting the buggers. We had a garter (isn't that what its really called?) snake for a while as well. I would wrap the thing around my hand when I went for a walk and stuff. Kind of creeped some people out but that was the funnest part :D

My brother has a corn snake - used to have two but one died.
Anyways, we've had her for about 7 years and she's only about two feet long...we keep her in an aquarium that's about 2 feet long, a foot wide and a foot deep. She's really cool, very friendly, she always comes out of her little house to watch my brother play on his computer and stuff. We have a water dish that's about 7cm in diameter and about 3-4cm deep...you have to give the snake a fair amount of water to curl up in because when it's about to shed it crawls in there to soak itself to loosen the skin, therefore making it easier to shed. I think she cost around $75-$100 For the first year or two she had to eat frozen baby mice, now she eats live ones...needless to say they only feed her when I'm not at home! |

Don't most snakes have to be fed live food? (or dead frozen food that you keep in your freazer)
I think I'd rather a new pet rat then snake. :hehe: But snakes are beautiful! I'd love one, but i'd never beable to feed it life food :( so its out of the question. |
