America's Moment of Clarity
I thank the distinguished Chair. We now have more terrorism than less terrorism. That is the fact. We have the entire world turned against us. When we cannot get Mexico and Canada to go along with us, we are in trouble.
Sen. Fritz Hollings (D-SC), November 7, 2003 http://hollings.senate.gov/ We learned in World War II that no matter how well the gun was aimed, if the recoil is going to kill the guncrew one does not fire the gun. Yes, it was a good aim to get Saddam but now look at the headline. I ask unanimous consent to include this particular article from the Financial Times, "Al-Qaida Exploits Insecurity in Iraq to Acquire Weapons and Swell Its Ranks." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sen. Fritz is a veteran of WW2 and was a young Senator during the Vietnam War. He and many others see many similar things between Vietnam and Iraq though, http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...today/11941765 and this is of course very bad news. my condolances to those who have had to suffer through this mess first hand... |

Andy rooney, a face for the people to sympathize with. You should see how he was peddling microchip technology after 9/11 ... that man is part of the decline.
'We need some system for permanently identifying safe people. Most of us are never going to blow anything up and there's got to be something better than one of these photo Ids. I wouldn't mind having something planted permanently in my arm that would identify me.' - Andy Rooney |

The trouble is that Bush has put himself into a predicament that America can't back out of. They started this mess in the Middle East, they have to finish it. It would be very irresponsible of of them to say, "Shit! What a mess. Let's bail." Without any form of dominate power in that region, it'd be open warfare amongst the religious sects.
Saddam may have been a dictator but he definitely kept the place under control, as fear is oftentimes the best control method. |

^actually I'd like to throw some psychadellic mushrooms in there as well.
:) and hell, why just dubya and saddam? throw in any other major world leaders that have beef with each other too. at the same time, we can have an army of cropdusters dusting every major city in North america with LSD, just before primetime. Then we hijack CNN right when the 6:00 news is coming on and broadcast video feedback with Wierd Al Yankovic doing a commentary over top and maybe flashing pictures of hamsters every once in awhile... fuck this IS a wierd tangent.... er so who's with me? :keebler: :smoke1: |

Also interestingly enough, the same senator supports reinstating the military draft in America. What the?
----- REINSTATING THE MILITARY DRAFT On the first day of the 108th session, Sen. Hollings introduced the Universal National Service Act of 2003, a bill to reinstate the military draft and mandate either military or civilian service for all Americans, aged 18-26. Specifically, the bill mandates a national service obligation for every U.S. citizen and permanent resident, aged 18-26. To that end, the legislation authorizes the President to establish both the number of people to be selected for military service and the means of selection. Additionally, the measure requires those not selected specifically for military service to perform their national service obligation in a civilian capacity for at least two years. http://hollings.senate.gov/issues_defense.html#draft |
