If there was a draft to go and fight in the war on terrorism, would you go?

Well, would you go, or would you flee to the hills, discuss.

^I see. Fair enough, though why the need for such patriotism?

I myself feel that since Canada was aswell colonially aquired that our leaders should be held underneath the proverbial looking glass as scrutinously as possible; but tell me, why have such faith in Canada?

^Perhaps the question isn't that you're running from it, more rather you are adding to it if you_DO_go.

the so called "war on terrorism" is mainly an american war.. Canada is not that involved with it, there is no way there would be a draft here, only in the USA. And no i would not fight in a war i do not support

would it no t of been better to see milosivikl taking out of power before he was able to slaughter hundreds of innocent people. it wasnt considered a war on terror at the time but he was just another terrorist. Look at N. Korea they are threatening the world with nuclear weapons unless they are allowed things they want respect nuclear weapons aint the way to get respect. Look at the kashmiri insurgency another terrorst front. It is all over just to bad we dont get involved in all of them to help out.

I'm not sure why people are bringing up the U.S. since they were never mentioned in the original question. I'm pretty sure the U.S. can't draft Canadians. So my guess is the question meant that if Canada had a draft for the war on terrorism would you go?

My question is if Canada decided to join in on the war, why does that all of a sudden make it ok?

There is a big difference between Milosovich, Korea and Terrorist organizations.

Countries like the ones mentioned above are centralized with military that is easier to single out during a war. Terrorist organizations like al quada are decentralized and mix in with general population or in some cases are the guy next door making them nearly impossible to find and very flexible.

^ I don't think the majority of Canadians are actually in that mindset.

But if you think of it, for the last fifty or so years Canada has taken more of a peacekeeper stance in terms of foreign policy, earning MAD PROPZ worldwide for peacekeeping efforts (Bosnia, middle east, etc.) Canada suddenly taking an aggressive stance in the big picture would be completely out of character.

Maybe part of the problem with this whole 'war on terror' is in its semantics. It seems overwhelming enough to think that blowing the shit out of some countries will eliminate terror worldwide. What's next? Racism? Cancer? Cher?

Blind patriotism is very dangerous, I'd compare it to the teenage mentality of jumping off a building if it was the cool thing to do.

^well I didn't wear a poppy, and I slept in until about 11am, but somehow, I don't think the deceased soldiers mind...
I think they all realize now that there are better things to focus on than worrying about how well rememberance day goes.

on that note, I'd gladly refuse to be drafted and go live in jail instead. I mean... free food, shelter, sustinance... I don't have to do shit. The prison sex may not be too pleasant, but hey, if I'd rather take it in the butt by Blackass Bubba than aid in the war on terrorism, I think that kinda says something.

Sean, wearing a poppy hardly pays respect, although there are plenty of yuppies out there who think wearing a poppy one day of the year is doning their part.

I constantly am paying respect by educating myself and others on what this "war on terror" and previous wars are truly about.

When had he ever indicated that 'wearing a poppy' was paying respects?

But good for you doing your part, GOLD STAR!

Spouting half baked conspiracy theories about the reasons for war is hardly education.

Sean, you totally took that the wrong way, I was speaking generally about people, not about you.

EDIT

furthermore if you want me to make you look like an idiot again by spouting ad homenims it shouldn't be too hard
