"but are they fuckin crazy like that???it kinda looked like a rave but it was a club...."
haha not even close! totally different leagues. sound factory is one in a long legacy of legendary '90's ny superclubs like twilo, the tunnel and the limelight that helped form the club and rave scene in north america. keep in mind that the the rave scene is essentially a club scene. the first "raves" were held in clubs. and now after a long period where one-offs at random venues were the norm many raves in big cities today are often held in clubs. this isn't a bad thing at all. instead of partying in a hockey arena or underneath a bridge or a conference center or something you're partying in a purpose built venue. the environment at a place like the sound factory or the limelight was much wilder than you'd find at what's billed as a rave today. you get a way crazier and more diverse mix of people and much more hardcore partiers. some would say you also get better music. depends what your tastes are. club's in van can't compare. for one thing they still close at 4AM on the weekend.. twilo typically closed at 2 or 3 PM, sound factory around noon. sonar and lotus kind of have ravey atmospheres on some nights. honestly there's not much difference between what you find at a rave and an electronic music club in vancouver.. just older people and less drug usage at the clubs. |

yo thanx man...that answered my question....-unlike stringbeans who gave me no time at all....-but anywayz ....yu leanr somehting new everyday .....i never new raves originated in clubs..it would make sence though(kinda after party dealy)
i noticed the crowd at sound factory was alot different than a raves crowd and a lot of crazy pretty fucked(high) up looking people....ive herd that the electonic clubs in vancouver are just like raves but the crowd iz somewhat different ...i liek the party crowd better then i would the "bar/club" crowd....btu sound factory looked trippy....id like to go to that some day.... --<:r4v3t0th3gr4v3:>-- |

"...id like to go to that some day...."
mmm.. you might be a bit disappointed. new york's club hey day is pretty much over thanks to major crackdowns during the guliani era. during the late 90's the big clubs used to hire private ambulances every night to anonymously deliver ODing partiers to hospitals. they also used small private rooms to stash away people that were so fucked up they couldn't walk. the media got wind of this and you can imagine the political fallout. a lot of clubs closed (including the most notorious club the 90's, Twilo) and all of them had to reform. i post about it quite a bit on various forums and i'm sure i'm beginning to sound like a broken record in some people's minds... but to experience some serious club nuttiness in north america these days then montreal is the place to hit. some of the former icons of the NY scene have moved there and mtl is literally swimming in new yorkers bitching about how lame the ny scene is these days. montreal is the new north american afterhours party hotspot. people actually call club Stereo the Twilo of the North. go while you can because it's already becoming pretty commercial thanks to ridiculous amounts of tourists showing up every weekend just for the clubs. in a few years it could be lost.. |

"i wanna go to n.y."
look.. now is not the time for NY. it's a disaster zone. ny clubs are full of narcs and things are so restrictive that Danny Tenaglia has actually stopped the music at Arc (one of the ny clubs of the moment) several times and directed his flashlight at someone on the dancefloor and demanded they be kicked out... why? get this.. for smoking. tobacco. this is actually necessary because clubs can be forced to close for letting people smoke inside.. similar to vancity but you don't have djs stopping the music or anything on the west coast. ny is way past it's expiry date and really lame right now. it's like fascist clubbing. you can get away with nothing. wait 5 years and it might be ok again |

having been personally to Sound Factory myself, i would say the club was pretty descent that night and the vibe was really good. Dancing behind me also happened to be the hottest blonde stripper i have ever graced my eyes on (so that definately helped).
But on another note, places like Sound Factory, Club Exit, Roxxy, Crobar are all beginning to become targets of excessive crack downs. Its true what Quanneur said, NY clubbing is definately not the same as it was six years ago, but then again not many North American cities can boast of a vibrant nightlife anymore(except for maybe Montreal). Actually yes....Montreal is the best now that i think about it :) |
