^^ sounds like motion sickness.

The Blair Witch project didn't bother me either, things like that don't. But like you, I can't read in a car or on the bus. I've literally puked a few times from it. No fun at all.

Motion sickness occurrs when the body is subjected to accelerations of movement in different directions or under conditions where visual contact with the actual outside horizon is lost. The balance center of the inner ear then sends information to the brain that conflicts with the visual clues of apparently standing still in the interior cabin of a ship or airplane. From one third to one half of airline passengers will experience some degree of motion sickness when encountering heavy turbulance. It has been found that fear or anxiety can lower the threshold for experiencing symptoms, however some individuals seem to be naturally prone to motion sickness since childhood. Symptoms generally consist of dizziness, fatigue, and nausea which may progress to vomiting.
long story short: Your eyes and your balance centre inside your head send conflicting messages to your brain.

Best cure I found was to stare at something faaaar away, like the horizon. I used to have really bad motion sickness...but I got over it eventually.

i know it sucks. i'd love to be able to read on the bus or skytrain or something, makes the long trips seem so much shorter. but i just resort to listening to music, as that doesn't make me sick!

mp3 cd players are only like $70 these days... $120 for a good one. if you're lookin to pay a bit of $ get a sony atrac3plus mp3 discman. with atrac3plus compression you can fit something like 500 songs on one disc.

i'd actually wait and buy a somewhat good one. then drop $70+tax on a piece of shit.

i bought a really good panasonic one i'm in love with for $150. but sometimes that's just not in the budget for a while.

either way, dalyn gets my old one tomorrow. cause he's special like that.

well that's good.

i guess most of the ones i looked at in the lower price range disappointed me since they didn't have most of the options i was looking for.

but i found my panasonic, and it has my heart.. until i can afford a good mp3 player anyways.. haha

i saw the sony atrac3 mp3 discman.. i was thinking of getting it, but i didn't know much about it so i didn't. hah.

i like mine because it loads fast because it doesnt have id3 tag support (which i dont want/need). 40hr playback, and cd/rw compatibility, and a wired remote. it's kinda bulky though, but i didnt wanna spend a lot of money on a slim player...

^ see there's where mine got more expensive. it's slimmer since i hate bulky things, 80hr playback due to it not spinning constantly and my lovely rechargable batteries, cd-r/rw support, remote, all that fun stuff.

i think the 80hr rechargable battery thing is the best though. haha i *hate* regular batteries with a passion..

heehee... yeah, i'm poor and i don't have a car here so i have no choice but to take the bus. i don't mind reading on the bus tho. it's actually my favorite place to read/listen to music because i don't feel like i'm procrastinating on school stuff...

i can totally get into a book anywhere though... last time i read a good book on the bus, i started crying and everyone must of thought i was a crazy nut... heehee, hooray for the un-privacy of public transit =)

I can read on it, but when people discuss their mundane lives, it distracts me, so do loud walkmans and people jabbering away in a foriegn language.
