Canada becoming more like the US
Music group aims to charge Internet users <-- this is stupid, i hope that the court rejects SOCAN's case.. a lot of people don't download music from the net and this affectively penalizes everybody for the actions of few, we can all expect higher internet costs and slower page loading times due to the elimination of ISP web caches if this goes through. To me this is no worse than the RIAA suing 12 year olds for downloading music in the US. :finger: i actually think this will increase music downloading as everyone will already be paying for it..

i'll pay more when telus starts working.. if it still works but goes shittily slow then i'll continue to complain.. My last phone bill/internet bill was $30 less then previous months.. bitching at them for 45 minutes twice a day really helps!

Indeed if the law does go through I can see internet companies doing away with Caching to keep them out of the legal fangle bullshit this SOCAN group is trying to create makes me want to go to the supreme court and kick the plaintiffs right square in the mommy daddy buttons.

Side note : If you really want an eye opening perspective on Canada and the United States check out, The Vanishing Country - Is It Too Late To Save Canada? By Mel Hurting. I'm about half way through the book and it truly opens your eyes. Canada is slowly being run by Corporations. That may sound bad, but to make it even worse there not even Canadian corporations there foreign ones. Other G-7 countries would never stand for this. Blah. `t1m |
