Jobs w/ tips (hostessing/waitressing/etc)
I'm working at a cafe right now, but I'm behind the counter so I basically only make tip-jar tips. Depending on how busy it is, I can make anywhere from a quarter to an extra hour of wage. Either way, it's not much, and if there are opportunities out there for me to make more, I'd just on the wagon in a second.
Anybody have any suggestions? I have a bit of experience with waitressing from Death By Chocolate and the cafe that I'm working at now. Not REAL waitressing though...like, I never took orders or anything...just serving dishes to the tables. And I've worked at cafes for about 5 years and have plenty of barista experience. I heard that some restaurants split the tips evenly amongst the waitresses, hostesses, and kitchen staff. Is this true? I wouldn't mind at all finding a hostessing job that pays tips, or even a waitressing job at a bar (I have my Serving It Right certification). Any suggestions would be great! Just kinda frustrated at making a bit more than minimum wage when I could be making more. |

im a host at the keg. Usually at restaraunts like, cactus, the keg, sammy's, and milestones, the tips are shared. Servers where i work have to cash out 30 percent of their tips from a night into the tip pool. Then the tips are divided according to hours worked and position. In order from greatest paying position to least.:
1st cook, 2nd cook, appy's, saladtenders, hostesses, bussers, dishwashers. As a host, if i work say three busy nites hosting, and a couple nights bussing, my tip share on monday will be anywhere from $48 to $80! Also if you are going to apply for a job waitressing, dont use that word, people that work in restaraunts prefer the word "server" ;) anywhoo, good luck! |
