I do yoga stretches every morning and night for my back, it's just a simple position (i call it a turtle) and it stretches and relaxes everything nicely. I'm trying to figure out how to type it...
let's try: stand with feet shoulder length apart, knees relaxed. Raise arms to the celing, fingertips facing up. Kneel down with hands still up, tops of feet on the floor and then tuck your body down so that your face is against the floor and keep your arms extended out. Hold that position for as long as comfortable. F, you'll feel so good afterwards. I think that position as far as yoga goes is a resting position between postures, it gives the body a nice stretch.. also, if you can afford it, a good massage therapist does the trick very nicely. I have one I can reccomend in Vancouver if you'd like. |

Chiropractors & massage therapist are getting a huge hunk of my money right now ... but they -do- work.
but stretches do help too ... i also go for a jog/run in the morning first then i stretch. [ edit ] Back when I started my treatment in March ... the doctors found that I had 3 disc's that had been fractured from tumor growth. They are finally starting to get better .... but I had chemo so that could have helped. [ /edit ] Last edited by All!e; Dec 04, 03 at 01:32 PM. |

my back cracks alot when i move and stuff or if people hug me since my accident. and weve ben doin alot of heavey stuff at school no good.. i usually only feel better if i stretch my back in all the supposed "bad ways" to stretch it, but all my joints hyper extend.
stretching is the best medicine. i like doing hot cold on my back like icing it for ten minutes then heating it for ten and so on. i donno if thats good to do or not either... so i donno. jsut stretch. |

But see a professional as you might have a pinched nerve, chiro will adjust if needed but stretching and proper posture goes a long way too. |

Stretch,
I had a bad back too but I went to a therapist and she reccomended a couple things to me. 1. Lying flat on the ground and then bring you knees close to you chest and hold, and repeat. 2. Stand on all 4's . (sort of like dog position ) and push your back upwards. Repeat 3. Lie face down on the ground and then lift your bodyup with your hands. (sort of like your doing a push up only your stretching upwards.) I hope those help :) |

I read that that whole thing about how E is bad for your back, and drains your spinal fluid and all that is all bs.....I read that that story comes from when they were testing the effects of mdma, and one of the tests they did was taking samples of spinal fluid or other things from ur back...I think that sounds somwhat accurate...because my back was worse before I started popping...it in no way has gotten really bad from popping...I think that jus all comes from peoplke with sore backs after dancing all night, because how often do u acctually dance all night....obviously ur back is gonna kil u in the morning.
:keebler: jus a thought...what ya'll think? |

EVERYONE that i know that has done yoga on a regular basis for even a few months has said that it has improved their back tenfold. i was in 3 car accidents as a passenger two years ago over the span of 11 months and it tore my back right up. i've done lots of swimming, working out, massage therapy, physiotherapy, acupuncture...and it IS better than it was before, but it's definitely still sore and has much room for improvement. i'm planning on picking up yoga sometime in the near future. if you're interested jen, we could sign up and do yoga together somewhere downtown 2-3 times a week. let me know!

I'm suprised that nobody said anything
about smokin dope yet . I blaze everyday after work because I sit in traffic from N.Van to Coquitlam and it helps relieve back pain and helps me not rage out . :smoke1: Jogging helps a lot too . Last edited by Smitch_P; Dec 05, 03 at 01:16 AM. |

Hahahahah never thought this would come in handy. I work as a lifeguard and one day for one of our training sessions they decided to bring in a back care specialist? I mean come on, when in our job EVER will we be required to lift things? Ya, people out of the water...but 9 out of 10 times they'll be uncantious anyways and you'll have to use a spinal board! So anyways we had this workshop and the woman told us that even if you don't feel the stretch, it still happens...I've heard some awsome one above me but the ones she taught us were standing on one leg and lifting the other one in front and then really gently to the side. The other one is one that sweet kandy mentioned, the dog. All fours and arch your back then let it sag. Also, lying down on your stomach and reaching out in front of you helps...

My work requires me to do a lot of lifting all day monday to friday and I've worked there 2 1/2 years now....my back just recently was screwed up....went to Steven Reid Chiropractor on 1775 Nanaimo street, Van....that guy saved my life...I couldn't even walk and after only 3 sessions with him he put me right back in order...I still have some pain from the sciatic nerve being pinched but I do these stretches whenever I remember...u kinda put one leg on a higher object a large step ahead than the other and lean into the step...helps me a bit + I do some of those stretches some of ya mentioned above.... usually that stretching should come after a doc looked at ya and thinks everythings okay.....but don't be fooled, I went to my reg. family doc and he just gave me painkillers while the chiropractor actually fixed me up and told me what was actually wrong and I could feel it exactly where he said it was and everything....get it checked out no matter what...ur back is not to be messed with....I learned that the hard way unfortunately.... I've been out of the regular gym cycle for almost 2 months now...I hate it...I used to go 6 days a week...now I can only do stretching and light weights....oh well...in time I should be back on track....oh yeah and something really important is keeping a positive attitude about the healing process....don't worry about it too much and just take care.... :kimmie:

the rumour came from MDMA testing where they would drain spinal fluid from the test subjects. MDMA research causes spinal fluid loss. |
