Well I'm about to read a book which has a chapter on how it has been proven that listening to certain classical music can increase your IQ
Itll be an interesting read I guess Electronic music may be able to do the same thing *shrug* |

^ classical makes ya smarter. complex math goin on there.
music is a language. tones, beats, rhythm, volume, (etc) are all part of that equation. electronic music is (imo) a complex approach, in some aspects, seeing how different sounds, breaks, scratching, mixing in is required. at the same time though, it's quite easy to follow the 4/4 - 2/2 etc etc rhythm of the song, less time changes and key changes. definitley, music makes you smarter |

A lot of Psy-trance is made through excessive layers. And i don't think layers specifically make a song more "intelligent". I find with a lot of the more "mechanical" music (techno, minimal tech, goa/psytrance, etc.) have this razor thin line between really fucking brilliant and absolutely nothing to it. Tobias tends to do sets that bounce between those two I find. Layers can make a song more intelligent but I find that if that's all it has going for it, I lose interest really quickly. |

Ignorance is Bliss and Knowledge is Power... anything that makes your mind wander and ponder could make you more intelligent. mental apathy is not the way to go.... |

wouldn't 'personal taste' be dictated by thinking for yourself? |

I do not think MUSIC makes you smarter. I do however think music makes you more cultured. Meaning that you learn to appreciate other types of music and art evne if you personally don't like it you can still however appreciate it. This is something many more people in the world nned to learn.

the perspective of intelligence is what needs to be reviewed.
i think an open mind in general makes you more receptive to new information and knowledge thus creating more potential intelligence. The theory behind classical music is that it soothes and relaxes different parts of your mind which makes you able to use the mind more efficiently. Therefore you gain more control over your mind because your mind is able to receive more input.I find the same thing common when i listen to well produced and arranged trance.(watch me get flamed for this one :keebler: ) |

having an open mind means confronting new things without prejudice.
listening and seeking out more electronic music means you have developed a preference for something. it is not having an open mind, in fact it's quite the opposite. you have developed a postive prejudice for all things electronic. being open minded would be a good litmus test for certain kinds of intelligence, but liking a specific subset of a broader art hardly will raise your iq points. |
