'democracy' - what it means to you?

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=democracy
^ as the dictionary sights.

democracy can be broken up into the latin root demo - the people. and the other half, crace - cry/voice.
democracy = the peoples cry/voice

Was curious what democracy means to you? What about the democratic society we dwell in today?

umm... i just think of democracy as a mis-used word. government is better. a society automatically governs itself upon belief. if a smile means hapiness, everyone believes it. if peolple don't like getting stolen from, stealing will stop. if murdering is view negatively... you get what i mean. democracy is just the people's right to site their opinion. unfortuantely, the people's opinion is never really THEIR opinion. and then we're into a struggle of what is the truth. and fuck.

democracy's principle is nice. but so is communism's.

"Democracy is the worst form of government in the world, except for every other from."

Winston Churchill

To me democracy is definitely a good thing. However I think that in our society people have given up the power they have by disengaging from the process of it. As this happens a gradual process has started that is seeing the working or middle class having less influence on their lives.

This has translated into longer work weeks, less access to education and lower actual wages.

The solution in my opinion is to organize and get involved with your community.
