i believe that this type of slang is used just about everywhere in bc... people talk over the net...people move to new places and the slang goes with them... i've even herd hurtsack in new brunswick... it's common sense that slang travels far and wide... no reason to expect that it orriginated from a single place.. or time... chances are it was used a long time ago and forgotten.. it's just taken the people of our generation to rebirth "ghetto slang" and make it something of our own... :smoke1:

i dont use slang becaus i think im hardcore, sometimes it just fits better than a real words. like if i get sold a "pinner" joint, its far more interesting/colorful than getting sold a "less than average" joint or a "small" joint. slang is the shit.

At the risk of turning this thread serious, slang is just a natural part of language; indeed, some might even argue those who invent certain slang have a firm grasp on language skills.
Take the slang from A Clockwork Orange. Anthony Burgess understood slang so well he was able to create an almost entirely new language using idioms from the current English language and predicting how they may be altered in certain circles many years down the road. Many things factor into its formation and, should certain jargon catch on with the populace, may even become a fixture in the official use of a language; Lord knows that English itself has evolved quite a bit over the last century itself. |
