ahhh yes!, elementary school...playing pogs, stealing pogs, throwing things, lighting library books on fire, riding bikes, blowing up things with fire crackers, nirvana and playing guitar. Those were the days when melting plastic soldiers and eating a bag of junk food could entertain me and my friends for hours.
gross elemantary school moment: those weirdo kids who picked up cigarette butts and smoked them... |

I don't even remember tons from elementary school anymore...but my days there were quite before the days of pogs...mine were back in the days of Star Wars & G.I. Joe action figures, Cabage Patch dolls and Garbage Pail Kids, Wonder Woman and The Incredible Hulk on TV, when comic books were still sold in corner stores...
K, enough of that... Was actually just going to mention that one day, about four or five years later, me and a buddy went back to our old elementary school to say Hi to the teachers that were still there and have a look around...and the one weird thing was how small everything looked and felt compared to when we used to go there. Not that it didn't make sense, but just the fact that everything seemed normal when we were there and now it was just...small. Were we that wee and tiny? When did we get big? When things happen day by day sometimes you miss the big picture, and that's what it felt like. Was very saddened as well a few years back when I had heard that my grade one Hebrew teacher had commintted suicide recently...kind of damaged the innocence I associated with the time...like a heroin needle in Disneyland. RIP Mrs. Rosenfeld. |
