Rastafarianism.
I guess you learn something every day.
One of my lastest assignments requires me to write a 3 page paper on a religon of my choice, but one which is not my own. So after juggling between Buddhism and Shintoism for the past week, I have decided to go the other route with Rastafarianism. They follow Christianity and Judaism but tend to pick and choose the stuff that conforms to them, as it was started in the 30's as a respose to slavery. Oh, and the white man is the devil, which I don't agree with. You know what the best part is??? They blaze A LOT. Apparently, it is a huge part of their faith and it is required on the path to enlightenment. Now that's my kind of religon!!! I wish I could blaze before I go to church!!! -Dwight:Somatic:

You don't have to accept other people's beliefs..... but you do have to respect them.

OK
we were discussing this in law class and I wuz wondering whether or not Rastafarians are allowed to spark up over here because not allowing them to do so would be discrimination against religion no? After this conversation, completely by coincidence in SS we were discussing how the law has to respect other religions and how it is possible to create religions. Apparently, all you need is 28 people to create one. Does that not mean somewhere in your "sacred parchments" or whatever that you could include religious acts such as blazing or what not and be able to get away w/ it? If anybody is able to shed any more light on this than go ahead.. P.S. I'm soooo SUPER DUPER BADLY BAKED RIGHT NOW! woke up and wuz still high from last night... so yah.. maybe this won't make sense but whatever

1) you can't be a true (as in fundamental) rastafarian unless you're origins are in africa.
2) bud smoking in the rastifarian religion is dedicated to times of self reflection and meditation, which means youd be smoking bud in private, which is pretty much legal now anyways. 3) in court you'd be laughed at unless you can actually proove you follow the religion on more than a superficial level. r.

Yes. That's what the religon is all aboot. It states that the white man is the devil and the the mission is to bring all people of African descent back to Africa.
In Jamaica, however, Rastafarians have festivals almost every week where a whole bunch of them get together and blaze. They will do this in an open area, sometimes even blocking off the streets to do it. This is in public. The Canadian Constitution gives freedom of religon and if this is part of your religon, what can the law say??? Another grey area, that's for sure. -Dwight:Somatic:
