i use Telus's adsl and if you plan on doing any sort of uploading, stick with Telus. Shaw bitches at you if you upload too much, lol. I've heard commercials for this Primus ADSL or something, i think. Maybe thats an option

hmmm. if you don't like telus going with other adsl providers might not really make a difference because chances are they are just reselling telus's service.... i'm not sure about primus but that's my guess.

Shaw doesnt go down as much buuuuut the speed of internet really fluctuates during high traffic time etc. Plus there's upload/downloat limits whereas... telus is UNLIMITED!

exactly. There's these chinese companies that sell adsl service but in truth they just get lines from telus. Just like how chinese people have a cell phone company called "Simpro" which actually just has lines from Fido. So its all the same.

I've had Shaw cable for about 3 years and its been very reliable, was only down once seriously, a bad connection wire nearby and they fixed it within a few hours. My bill is about $38/month + tax - I have my own modem and don't have cable TV.

It used to be fast at all times but the last 4 months it's been slow 7-11 pm.
I get maximum download 4300 kbps (damn fast!) around 2 am
and 2000 kbps daytime,
it's 1400 kbps which is OK right now at 9 pm,
it's as low as 1000 kbps evening primetime.
Max upload is about 500 kbps.

Local people who have Telus ADSL tell me they get constant 1400 kpbs download but it was much faster a couple of years ago.

For speed test, go to http://www.dslreports.com/
click Tests+Tools on left
click Speed Tests on left
click "Test speed using our server at ..."

I used to have ADSL. I loved it, my house was close to the station so I had a real quick connection. 1867 kbps Download and 768 kbps Upload... it never really dropped below that. I think I had two short interruptions in Service and that was it. Although their Tech Support leaves something to be desired. I always just asked for Tier 2 so I could talk to someone not reading default procedures off a card.

I'm with Shaw and I don't have too many problems at all. Once in a blue moon I'll get really slow connection/it's down, but that happens once every few months and only lasts for an hour or so.
