Being single... it took lots of hard work and countless hours planning on how I could fuck up worse then I had the time before. In the end it all payed off, and the reward of having to whack off instead gettin the sweet sweet poon is more then enough. Yeah me!

The one that comes immediately to mind is my acheivments with my job.

When I first joined my current company I was really green as a surveyor. I'd had 2 or 3 months experience with a company that really did a different (and a lot easier) type of surveying.. most of the jobs I'd worked on had been pretty easy, and I was given the most menial tasks.

Well Jan 06 2003 I got a serious wakeup call.. if I wanted to maintain employment in this profession, it wasn't going to be easy. One of the first days, I was introduced to the concept of setting iron pins to denote property lines.. which means sledge-hammering an square iron pin about 1 centimeter in diameter, but 2 and a half feet long into the ground.. and getting that 1 cm head to within 3 millimeters of where it's supposed to be.

I was so exhausted halfway through the day.. I'd never had to carry so much heavy shit around.. I had no clue how to properly swing a sledge.. Later that week, on the same site, we had to tiptoe along this rocky ledge and cross along this fallen tree trunk... (DON'T LOOK DOWN!!) that was over a fairly serious drop. I was scared shitless, as much about having to give up my job as I was about the possibility of tumbling down a cliff.

To date, my job has put me through any number of other challenges, including climbing up to dangerous heights, cutting hundreds of meters of line with a machete, balancing on any number of other precarious precipices, and recently some dubious boating excursions (I survived, but my radio ended up in Davey Jonses' locker). I've worked in torrential downpours, blazing, unrelenting heatwaves, that brutal cold snap we had a while ago...

Just before Xmas I was given another raise, and I found out the reason I received it was that my various co workers had rated me the best assistant to work with in the company. I've been told that in the event of a shortage of work, I'd have privellege over the other assistants. Basically, I've gone from being an inexperienced guy with limited knowledge and ability, to the go-to guy that can be counted on to get the job done right.

Not bad for an English major. =)

Self inducing an O.B.E. How? By taking an extremely huge breath and holding it, while slowly exhaling over a 5-10 minute period.

Don't tease us.. out with it!

Btw, I love my job, despite (or maybe because of?) some of the things it puts me through.

Keeps life interesting, right?

hehe.. yea my job is treeplanting.. it's seasonal so i only do it 4-5 months a year (spring/summer). Anyways its pretty rough: planting in all weather (storms, snow, ice rain, 40 degree heat, etc.), all types of terrain (steep steep mountain sides, tons of overgrowth, swamp land, basically everything else), large amounts of bugs (practically breathing them in, noseeums, horseflies, mesquitos, every other bug known to man), and dealing with wildlife in VERY remote locations (i.e. many close encounters with bears, wolves, deer, elk, moose, etc.), and on top of that planting 3000+ trees a day while working 6 days a week, 10 hours a day minimum, no breaks. I have literally a million stories i could tell you all about my treeplanting experiences. it's VERY physically hard work, rated #2 physically hardest job in a study right behind alaskan king crab fishing. But i also love my job, get to travel all across canada, fly in helicopters, meet tons of people, have a hell of a good time on nights off, it's the best workout you'll ever get, etc. Anyways check out my photo gallery, got a bunch of planting pics up in there.

Haha, yeah... heard stories about tree planting.

Sounds like the bugs are the worst part. I've had a few days where there were a good amount of mosquitos, but that's about it.

10 hours a day, no breaks?.. do you eat.. ever?

Your job is more of an achievement! It's like mine, but kicked up a notch. BAM!

lol well we can take breaks, but its all piece work, paid per tree, so a lot of times the only break u get (or want for that matter) is when were bagging up more trees while gulping down a sandwich and large amounts of water.
