DAY OF ACTION Feb 4: Students across Canada against tuition fee increase
This comming Wednsday Feb 4th: DAY OF ACTION!!!
Students and future students are incuraged to join together at 1:00pm at the Down Town Art Gallery In the past two years tuition fees in BC alone have gone up from 70-200%!!! OCH!!! Call on the Federal Government to: -Restore federal funding to post-secondary education -Establish standards of quality, accessibility and transferability Call on the Provinchal Government (Camble  ) to: -Increase funding for Post-Secondary education -Legislate tuition fee reduction I feel very lucky to be offerd free room and board by parents while in schoool, otherwise I wouldnt be in school this year. Im sure there are a lot of you suffering or struggleing already with fees or can only dream about being able to afford post secondary one day. Education is a right kids! Im hopeing to be able to make it down town on wed... Anyone else going to join 1000's of students? Last edited by Ree Fresh; Jan 30, 04 at 04:19 PM. |

All post secondary students should make a n effort to attend
I understand gradual tuition increases -- but so much all at once? I think it's a bit ridiculous lend your voice for your fellow students I sure don't look forward to the tuition bill I'm gonna get when I go back to do grad work Ug. |

Thank god for scholarships and grands from the government. Also for a part-time job. :c-tard: F.Y.I. the average post-secondary graduate makes an average of $500,000 more than the average non-post graduate in a life time. `t1m |

it's a bit greedy to complain about rising tuition fees when the public is still paying 70% - 80% of the cost of YOUR education so that afterwards YOU can earn far more than you would otherwise. you're paying less than $4000 a year!! jesus, this is by far the best investment you'll ever make..

^excuse me, but im paying over $4000 this year.
This is quite heart breaking to here of the lack of suport. For a student to pay for RENT, TRANSIT, FOOD, and TUISION.... is ardly avordable to a person living alone. Also take into account that MOST students arnt able to find jobs paying more then minimum wage and are also flexible with your school hours and study needs. Right now the AVERAGE student is $25,000 in loan debt. If we let tuision fees increase even more... its goiong to turn out only the children of dr.'s will be dr.'s If you look at some Europian countrys and Australia; their post secondary students pay close to NOTHING! The attidudes you guys are showing are what lets the government continue to do what they want. Just remember Educaiton is your RIGHT, not just for people who can avored it. |

i donno... there are plenty of countries that make you pay even for highschool. and bc has pretty fuckin low tuition costs, dont get me wrong i get sad when i pay my tuition, and not to mention my monthly fees, my books, and all my shop fees and supplies.
i would love to have the tuition dropped, but i also realize that i am getting what i am paying for, an extremely amazing education. you have to take into count bc's economy right now, and how fucked up it is at the moment. some rights have to be earned, education is one of them. at least we can go to hospital and receive care without being quesitoned about insurance first. the government doesnt jsut take money and throw it away, its obviously going somewhere (yes into their pockets, but also into things like medical) im paying over $5000 for my year this year and thats keeping it cheap on supplies. my brother in halifax is paying over $10,000. plus his living expenses and his supplies.... i dont feel the need to complain as much. bc needs to buck up and pull up its socks and realize that we cant keep coasting on through, inflation is everywhere. |
