You should definitely go. It's one of the more stable countries in Africa and has such a rich history. My grandma's the chief of her village. My mom too pictures of the slave quarters in Elmina when she was last there. Maybe i'll post pictures on here one day... About the Red Cross thing. It's really hard to get a job with them. You have to have so many qualifications and years of education in a field that would be related to the area you'd be volunteering in. Check out the Human Resources section of their website. But yeah, i'm definitely going to work for either the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, or the World Health Organization. As for the countries I'd like to visit: Iceland Costa Rica India Japan China Brazil Namibia That's seriously about it... I think i'll get to travel to a lot of different countries if I get a job with an NGO or something similar. I'm not down with the whole tourist thing. I wouldn't want to travel to a country and stay in a resort. What's the point of that? The whole point of visiting a foreign country is to discover something about their culture, and take that discovery away with you. ...can't really do that lounging beside a pool at an American owned resort, now can you? |

Oh, as for the Us, I'd really really like to visit Atlanta, Georgia (and other cities in that beautiful southern state). I have this weird fascination with "the south".
and New Orleans--not during Mardi Gras. I want to visit the first black settlements in Nova Scotia--slaves who escaped via the underground rail road settled there. And when I go back to Ghana, i'd like to take a few days to go to Senegal. There's an island off of it's coast called Gore Island. It was the "middle passage" during the slave trade days. The last time most Africans would set foot on their native soil before they were packed onto the ships. http://www.sptimes.com/2003/10/05/im...70321_1005.jpg http://mrbillsworld.com/Africa/pages/IM000062_JPG.htm <--- slave quarters http://mrbillsworld.com/Africa/pages/IM000061_JPG.htm <---more http://mrbillsworld.com/Africa/pages/IM000058_JPG.htm Last edited by diva; Feb 13, 04 at 12:54 PM. |
