so essentially his whole argument comes down to marriage being the sole domain of the christian/catholic church.
which is like ben and jerry's charging nabisco a royalty whenever they make cookies, since ben and jerry's holds the copyright to cookie dough. did that make sense? |

Bullshit. Marriage is no longer a christian or catholic only thing. If any two straight people, regardless of religion [or lack of religion] can marry, than so should two homosexual people. In this country we're not forcing you to give up your religion, so stop trying to force everyone to live by it. |

anybody who thinks these politicians are out to ban gay marriage because of their devout christian beliefs is pretty naive
it's all politically motivated, Bush wants a constitutional ban on gay marriage so he can lock down the bible belt vote in the upcoming election. Regardless of where his personal beliefs lie, Arnie's against it because he's afraid to defy his party. It's good to see San Francisco's municipal govt standing up against Bush on this issue, but they'll pay for it if Arnie & his attourney general get their way. They've gone to the Supreme Court now, seeking to nullify over 3000 gay marriages that have taken place in the past 2 weeks, since SF courts began issuing marriage licenses to gays, in defiance of a state law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. |

I was really sickened by Bush's announcement the other day. I don't personally believe in marriage, but as someone who is bi, I would like to believe that if I lived in the states and if I chose to get married, I could enjoy the same rights and privelages as any other heterosexual married couple. Religion has no place in politics. If they are going to invalidate gay marriage because of some religious bullshit then they would also have to invalidate every other type of marriage that doesn't occur in a church.
No one is asking the church be forced to marry gay couples. But a gay couple should be allowed to enoy the same rights as everyone else. It is sad that a gay man or woman cannot even visit their significant other in the hospital if they are really sick because they are not family. It is also sad that someone like Britney Spears who was married for 58? hours had more rights than a gay couple that has been together for 40 years.... I agree that this announcement was completely politically motivated. Also, for the people quoting Leviticus, you should also note that that section of the bible also states that it is ok to own and beat slaves...not cool. Start really thinking about what you read instead of just believing a document that has very little relevance to today's society. |
