Giving up anything for Lent?

I'm certainlly not a practicing Catholic, but this time of year rolls around and I can't help but think of giving up something for the 40 days and nights of Lent - just for the challenge

I was thinking maybe i'd give up clothing shopping
but that idea broke my heart
then i thought maybe beer

I grew up Catholic and always participated, my most successful was when I was probably 11-12- gave up fast food.

why give something up?

why not give back...do something extra special for someone every single day for at least 40 days...it may even inspire you to do something every day forever.

it doesnt have to be something big....tell someone you love them...give someone who's hungry and homeless a meal or a blanket...

in grade 6 my best friend was catholic so i decided to do the lent thing with her, and gave up ice cream and bubble gum ( we went to the corner store beside our school every day to buy double bubble and a whole bunch of candy... we used to get these little nibs things for a cent) and it was kinda hard, but good.
ive already given up fast food, im gonna give up everything that is edible that comes out of a can for lent. start forcing my parents to buy more healthy.

I'm anything but a practicing Catholic, but this year I've decided to give up beer for lent. I drink way too fucking much of it, and despite going to the gym 6 days a week and eating relatively well I can just barely maintain my weight. This is mainly due to the fact that every Friday I drink 10-20 beers, and during the week due to hockey I can regularly drink another 20ish. This is going to be difficult though because I fucking love beer. Ah well, it's for the best.

i think i'm going to try giving up shopping, well partially...i'm only allowed to shop at thrift stores, moms allowed to buy me clothes, and shoes are exempted cause they're shoes

i think it's time to give up cookies as well...i'd probably be -5lbs if i didn't eat so many cookies
