She does not get sentenced until sometime in July.... She can get up to 20 years in prison all told, but she will probably do much less...

NBC today said the court would probably reject her appeal if she does. The case and charges were straight forward. Plain and simple shes guilty. There wasnt really a debate, it wasnt really a tricky case or anything.

True enough... unless they come up with new evidence in her favour (highly unlikely) appealing won't mean squat...

I do wonder why they deferred her sentencing for 3 months though.... and how much time she is going to get.

If it were a male in martha's place, he wouldn't have gotten even half of the publicity (or maybe even half the trouble!!). Men are intimidated of women in power. And yes, what she did was wrong, and it's not excusable, but women get harsher treatment by the media when they do wrong (or don't!!). Remember when Oprah went to court for speaking her mind? Remember when Belinda of the Canadian conservative party (probably the most powerful woman in canada besides the Governer General) was deemed a "dumb blonde" by the national enquirer? true, women do get more media coverage when it comes to crime, but it doesnt necessarily lead to the fact that the world is male driven. newspapers and newstations are businesses, and just like other businesses their goal is to make a profit. most news-worthy stories are going to be those that are out-of-the-norm because this is what creates excitement with viewers. perhaps the reason why women get more media coverage is because female crimes are out of the norm and do not occur as frequently as male crimes. also, the fact that martha stewart is a celebrity adds to why there's so much media coverage.

and still, i dont see how martha being sent to jail has anything to do with living in a male driven world. if you're mad over how she got so much media coverage... well, it would have been the same amount of coverage as with any other celebrity, male or female
