if you want things in 'simple lame terms' you should probably avoid trying out any overclocking. it's not something you want to fool around with if you don't know what you're doing.

Overclocking a computer is when you bump up the frequency that the memory bus runs at to a faster one. This in turn will make the CPU run faster ( this can also be done by increasing the CPU multiplyer ). Your best bet is to ask the same question to a computer forum as mention above.

IMO overclocking is not worth your time and hassle. Your PC is fast as it is.....so I'd rather have just a stable one too.

If you are new to computers, its good that you want to learn more, and the forums idea in general is a good one (may also want to try the online versions of some of the PC magazines that are out there...http://www.tomshardware.com/ is another decent one).

But...overclocking your computer is not what I would recommend as your first "hands-on" experience, since there are ways in which you may permanantly damage your hardware if you are not careful (i.e. you'll wind up throwing the damaged part in the trash, it won't be covered by the warranty, and you'll have to buy a replacement for it).

neoh will become famous soon enough
overclocking is a damn waste of time, who the fuck cares if your machine can run at another .4Ghz faster. You dont notice the difference anways, other then the instabability.

RAMBus speeds, amount of RAM, and FSBs are the bottleneck these days anyways, and those are all controlled by the mobo. So I wouldn't bother overclocking at all. Not to mention AthlonXPs have been known not to be able to handle overclocking too well.

It's really something that gamers who can't afford fast enough computers do. But like I said. These days it's pointless as it _really_ doesn't make a difference with that type of chip.

Best experience in learning how to fiddle with comp hardware I find is to find a friend who knows what they're doing and let them show you how it's done. Furthermore, I'd recomming building your own computer before I'd recommend learning how to overclock. After that it's actually pretty easy.
