everywhere keeps saying it's bad.. but I mean, so many of us do it. plus sure smoking is stupid, thats the obvious; although, most dont' understand the simple pleasure a cigarette can bring at their pinnical moments along the day. "sure the 15 smokes I had today were just for the hell of smoking, the other 5 were the best cigarette of my life" heh..

That's cause the obesity levels in America are a hell of a lot higher than in the states...
I think it's something like 127 million adult americans are overweight/obese... 64% of the adult population on the states.... I don't know what the numbers are for children in the states, but it's several million at least... |

Sadly, many of the things which we enjoy are not good for us. We each choose if we treat for our body like a temple or like a sewer. However, most of us aren't in a position to fully grasp the conequences of our actions. Its one thing to know what smoking can do, quite another to learn what smoking has done to you once its beyond your ability to repair the damage.
Smoking is particularly insidious, however, because you have to break more than a craving, you need to break a habit. Just think if you had been doing something 10-20 times a day, every day, for a number of years. Add to that the fact that smoking is physically addictive, and its a wonder that so many people do succeed. Its also socially acceptable (to a degree). Sure, some may complain about second-hand smoke, but no-one is gonna come up to you and tell you that they think you have a "smoking problem. But if you had that many drinks they would. If you had that many chocolate bars a day you would be considered to have a problem. In the end, though, it is a matter of personal choice and a roll of the dice as to what illnesses, if any, you may contract. |

^^^True, but its not carved in stone that that's what would happen...death could be accidental, etc...or could come from something entirely different and unrelated...the disease and body malfunction buffet is open with lots of variety but without a corresponding degree of choice...

Dying from lung cancer is a very long and painfull process.
The treatments are often so harsh they rival the disease themselves. But I don't think you could ever call someone "disgusting" because of something they enjoy. It's like anything else in life , to each their own. It's like Ben Harper said "your right is what you choose to do, and if you're not harming anyone , then you're alright with me" |

My point wasn't that you would 100% get cancer. I just find it odd how people say "I'm going to die anyway so whatever." Because when you're in pain dying from something like cancer or whatever I doubt you'll feel that way. Especialy if you have kids or something.
Then again maybe you'll just get hit by a bus. |
