Creating a temporary solution for TROLLS
I guess the topic of trolls has been on my mind for sometime and even though we've encountered very few of them I still would like to discuss the issue a little further.
Trolls and their influence.... I guess my biggest problem with trolls is the fact that many of them remain faceless. In high school if you went around telling people to "fuck off”,” eat shit", "bend over and let me ass fuck you", you might lose some friends and carry the day to day risk of ending up with a dental chart that resembles Theoren Fleury. The same goes for work, you can't tell your fellow workers and boss to go fuck themselves and expect to keep your job for very long. So why should all the rules change when we visit a public forums board? Is it because we can get away with it without fear of anything happening to us? Is it because we enjoy freedom of speech, perversion and bitterness? Is it a way to make ourself feel better at the expense of another? Trolls have a way of rising people's temperatures and enjoy watching other people defend themselves. Eventually they’ll grow out of it, get a job, girlfriend or hamsters and live happily ever after. Until that happens they'll be found wandering message boards posting all kinds of useless yet sometimes humorous text. Why F&K has always maintained a low-level interest in trolls... The main reason is the fact that I get very tired of seeing trolls run rampant. At first it's comical, innocent and entertaining but after awhile it becomes stale. A clever name, signature and theme do wonders but that can only keep the audience happy for so long. Like any act, you eventually retire, some earlier than others. Identifying a troll
I've never liked playing "god", "dad" or "Gandhi” but sometimes I intervene. If I want to view the masterpieces of trolls I’ll visit other sites or start telling people how my dick looks like a country turnip to random people on icq. If that's what gets you off go do it Saint Elsewhere. Unfortunately, I don't finance this site so you can tell me how to make bum gravy or swallow my dad’s load. Bottom line: Trolls usually don't last here. ~fORM |

I played with the idea for a bit, and went with a custom hacked, usergroup for "trolls" called "F&K Probation" Everyone we think is casusing trouble we throw into that usergroup, and then they become stripped of there features. They can't vote on polls, or post them, they can't rate threads, edit their profile, or give karma. Then if they DO deside to be upstanding members, we can remove them from "F&K Probation" and back into normal features. You will be able to pick out these members, cuz they will have a nice little TAG under there names.

Last time I checked, the site was called form-kaos.com. NOT snyx.com. So I'm guessing that it's more THEIR site than yours. I get the idea that you're pretty much just their moderator bitch who thinks what he's doing is alot more important than it actually is. oh and I'm still here. are you constipated or something? need some X Lax? |

Active Censorship
I'm all for tasteful, active, censcorship.
Unfortunately it would take a lot of work and trust on the part of the mods to do it properly. Due to the age group on these boards, theres a lot of immaturity (at all ages, but mostly in the lower end) that we could all do without here. If it's really needed, the other boards can take it up. Whats happened at different times on the other boards which operate in a virtual state of anarchy is that the immature wreck it for the rest. Ban troll IPs after one warning. But kick the Mod who abuses their power. peacout |

Ever go on lx, sir K?
It is pretty much what you call a virtual state of anarchy, and there is hardly ANY trolling on there at all. in fact I can't remember seeing ANY trolling done on it at all. I'm sure there has been, but obviously not that much. You know why? because people RESPECT the fact that they are free to post whatever they want, and they don't abuse that right.
what I'm trying to say is that the harder you pull on a dog's leash, the harder it pulls back. And if you just let the dog off the leash in the first place, it'll listen to you when you tell it to heel. |

to my recollection every time ive ever seen someone training a dog to heel they used a leash at first and yanked back on it....and eventually then the dog got it....
has nothing do with what ur talkin bout but whatever... g'day.. corrie |

Anarchy Model vs. Patrolled Model
Queer:
I know what you're getting at. -------------- At MIT's tech department they had a serious problem with hackers taking down the server back in the 70s. They got better and better security measures, and the hackers got better and better at killing the server through these security measures. Then they hired a hacker they busted to secure the network. He introduced a new command called KILLSERV. It killed the server. A few more times the server went down but the hackers realized it wasnt a challenge anymore and pretty well stopped. ------------- But this isn't a server / programming environment where it's difficult to post garbage. This is a forum where people communicate and share ideas and talk about issues. Since it's a means of communication, like Form said, through the internet- people have the ability to talk shit without getting knocked out. And that guarantee of anyonimity attracts quacks like Trolls. And that guarantee of anyonimity is why responsible policing (not nazi-style moderation) is required, IMO. While you say that you havent seen many trolls, perhaps my definition is different and I have seen many. peacout |
